Enjoying maths in P5

This year in primary 5 the children are vey lucky to have Charlie McLaughlan come in and support their learning in maths. The club is also supported by dedicated parent volunteers. Abby, Miss Docherty and the children of Primary 5 would like to thank everyone who took part in the vote to name Abby’s hen. We had 205 votes. This is much more than we expected.

Here are the final results
Last place – Pecky – 16 votes
Fourth place – Chicksy – 26 votes
Third place – Henrietta – 31 votes
Second place – Miss McNugget – 52 votes
First place – BONKERS – 80 VOTES!!!!! 🙂 😀

Abby’s Hen – The story so far

Abby is one of the pupils from Chapelside Primary in Airdrie. Abby was given the responsibility of naming one of her Papa’s new hens. Primary 5 came up with lots of ideas for Abby’s hen and after a vote managed to narrow this down to the top 5 ideas. One of the children suggested putting the vote to the public and posting a request for help on our class blog. So far we have had lots of votes.

Here are the top 5 names and the votes they have received so far-

Bonkers – 15

The winning name and a picture of Abby’s hen will be posted on our blog on Thursday 10th February.

Rainforest Paintings

The Rainforest Layers

On the 8th of February all of P5 made a painting about the Rainforest and we learned that there is four different layers in the rainforest. There is the Emergents,Canopy, Understory and the Forest floor.The Emergent layer has the tallest trees. We have made this blue because you would be able to see the sky. The Canopy is bright green because it gets lots of sunlight. Next is the Understory, this layer is darker green because it gets less sunlight.  Finally the Forest Floor iis brown, it is made up of dead leaves.We have learned about the Rainforest.

Mixing Colours

On Friday we were mixing colours to match the colours of the leaves in the rainforest. The most popular colours were light green and dark green. The most unpopular colour was  yellow. There are also other colours like pink,red,orange and dark purple and lots of others. Some colours were the exact same as the rainforest leaves but some, on the other hand, were not. The colours we used to make all of these were yellow,green,red,orange,blue,black,white and lots more. What was your favourite ?
