Snowman Spelling ☃️

Room 6 have had a great week and are feeling very festive. We have been working so hard on our Christmas Concert and can’t wait to welcome you tomorrow if you can attend, it is going to be so much fun! Please don’t worry about PE kits tomorrow, normal uniform is fine for our PE session.

We have also been embracing the Christmas season in our activities this week. As part of our weekend news yesterday, we completed our news through a picture. The aim was to draw a picture of something we did at the weekend and add as much detail as possible before having our classmates guess what we did. We had good fun looking for different clues in each other’s work to help us. Here are some examples of our picture news.

Today we also liked revising our common words from the last two weeks as consolidation. We did this by writing them in snowmen to create a festive picture. Have a look at some of our work.

Our Postal Delivery Service has also been very busy this week and we have thoroughly enjoyed delivering cards and letters to different classes.

Here are some comments from us about how we found our learning this week:

NG and CM – I liked the songs.
OM – I liked putting up the baubles on the Christmas tree.
QOand DT – I loved delivering the mail to Room 3.
HH and SI – I liked practising the 12 Days of Christmas.
IW – I didn’t running in the pitch.
HG, AR, ND and BrM- I absolutely 100% loved running around the pitches.
JR – I liked when we did our common words.
DMc and LW – I liked running round the pitch.
HW – I liked delivering the mail.
AS – I loved when people put letters in the post box.
RF – I liked when I took the cards to Room 5.
BM – I liked when the lights went out because the Christmas tree lit up.
Have  a super week everyone!

Christmas Concert 😊

Just a little reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday 13th, is our class Christmas concert at 09:30. We are really looking forward to the performance.

Pupils can come to school wearing a Christmas top/jumper and their normal school bottoms. We will be indoors for PE tomorrow so no need to bring a change of clothes. Pupils can also bring Christmas themed accessories with them if they wish (head boppers, Santa hats etc). Please do not purchase anything new, just if you have it already.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Christmas Fun

In Room 14, we have been having a fantastic time preparing for Christmas events. On a Friday we have been setting up Christmas themed stations/areas in the classroom. Last Friday we had a nail salon, Santa’s Workshop (lego construction), Christmas Kindness chains, Christmas Imaginative Stories, Snowflake Designs, Christmas Book Lists, Designing your Dream Christmas Menu and Christmas Reading. A lot of the stations were created by the pupils in our class.

Joanna – “I liked the designing my own snowflakes. I got to take it home. I taught other people how to cut them and make their own designs.”

Amber – I liked working in the nail salon. I liked talking to customers and seeing them happy with their nails. Miss Kennedy painted my nails and then asked for £20 for a polish. Luckily she was joking but it is helping us to learn about money too.”

Fraser – “I worked in Santa’s Workshop. I built toys. I built a robot. It’s good to get creative.”

Max – “I liked that we got to design our own toys.”

Lucy – “I liked the story writing area. I wrote a story about Candy Cane Lane. I love imaginative writing and try to write my own stories as often as possible.”

Keeva – “I liked working in the nail salon. I like doing other people’s nails and chatting to them. I would like to have a nail business when I grown up. We called our class business, Newton Nails.”

Carlisle – “I drew a grinch picture.”

Lacey – “I made a chain that said kind things about the people in my class and my family. Here is an emaple: Joanna is really kind to me.

We have been learning our songs for our Christmas Concert too. It has been a fun few weeks in Room 14.

Health & Wellbeing

Recently, Room 18 have been learning about health and safety within the kitchen. We have been learning about food hygiene and the steps to take when preparing  a meal. We put our knowledge to good use when preparing a healthy snack last week.
We made our own hummus with cucumber and carrot batons. We also made our own salsa and had this with different veggies on a wrap.

We developed our chopping skills and everyone had a go at trying something they had never tried before.

Busy Elves in Room 4

Christmas has arrived in Room 4!  Thank you very much for all the donations of wrapping paper. The boys and girls in room 4 have been busy cutting, sticking (and building their fine motor skills) at our wrapping station in class this week. Our wrapping station will be open all week and any donations of unwanted wrapping paper or gift cards would be most welcome.

It has been lovely seeing the boys and girls wrapping creations in class to take home or put under our class tree.

We have also been exploring shape, pattern and symmetry when making our own baubles to decorate the tree.  Can you spot which decorations are symmetrical and not symmetrical?

We are getting really excited about our big nativity performance on Tuesday.  We can’t wait to share our performance with you!

Have a lovely weekend.

It’s Getting Festive in Room 17!!!

With it being December in room 17, we have been stuff fun – and festive!

In math, we have done some work on bridging (carrying), and missing number questions. We have worked on some textbooks, and some questions on the board. It challenged us all for sure.

Next, the class has been doing some phonemes. The phoneme ‘ch’ ‘tch’ and ‘t’ has been working us all hard, making fun lists and even speed writing!

On the Primary 5 topic of natural disasters, we have done a fun experiment with volcanoes, before moving onto the sub-topic of floods. The whole class got to create a Paper Mache volcano, complete with paint. We got to set them off in the playground.

It’s almost the Christmas show, and Room 17 have been practicing ridiculously hard for our acting and singing. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the effort we put into it!

And, lastly, we have big news. On Friday, the 1st of December our elf arrived! Jingles the elf was sitting on a tree with a letter telling us to be kind, to put a bobble on the tree, named the Kindness Tree!

Our Week in Room 16 04.12.23

We have enjoyed so many things in Room 16 this week, we have started new reading books for all reading books and are enjoying challenging ourselves by creating character visualisers for the main characters in our books.

For maths, we have also challenged ourselves this week as we have moved on to multiplication and have tackled the 2, 4, and 8 times tables by looking for patterns and doubling our answers.

We have continued with our Christmas show practise and cant wait to show you what we have come up with (our favourite part of this week has to be our impromptu All I want for Christmas is You performance during Article Fun 31 this afternoon).

Room 1

Good afternoon,
This week Room 1 have been working really hard to develop their addition skills. We have been focusing on using different strategies to help us to add.

When we add zero – “It stays the same” JH
When we add one – “Its just the next number” CMCL
When we add two – “The next number and the next number again” SS

We have been using a number line, fingers and our big brains to help us complete different calculations. The boys and girls enjoyed carrying out lots of fun adding games to help develop their knowledge.

Have a great weekend

Thank you

STEM Ambassadors & Room 9

Today we had a visit from our P7 STEM ambassadors who came to teach us about the Water Cycle. It was really nice to have Boo and Amy in our class. We were very impressed with the activities that they did with us.

The first game was ‘Weather Charades’ and Mr Allen was very surprised that some us had never  played this game before. He said we might get to play it with our families on Christmas Day. It was really hard to mime out different weather to our group but it was good fun.

The main activity was to learn about the Water Cycle. We had to do an experiment in a jar with the rest of our group. We got a jar with hot water and food colouring, we then added hairspray to make clouds. When we added ice, it caused condensation inside the jar. At the end we added food colouring to make it look like rain. During the experiment we noticed that there wasn’t a lot of condensation so next week we are going to try the experiment again to see if it works better with boiling water.
