A learning filled week in Room 5 :)

Hello everyone!

Another full week of primary 2 has come to an end, and we have been learning lots of new and exciting things.

This week we looked at the sounds ‘ph, ee, oo, ck’ and our common words were ‘are, come, of, new’. We also learned about numbers being ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ and the signs we would use to show this when comparing it to other numbers. We ensured we were all aware of the numbers to 100 and could count forwards and backwards. Today, we started our first piece of Writing and we are writing about something we consider ‘important news’ in our life, like going on holiday, going out for a nice meal or spending time with family. In P.E this week we started learning ball skills by throwing and catching and rolling. We spent some time playing, and during play we were tasked with building something that is similar to a car or a building (I think they done really well, they are very imaginative!). Miss O’Brien taught us the colours in French this week, and we also know how to answer the register in French.

Next week we will move on to addition in maths, and a few more revision days of previous sounds looking at ‘ai, oy, oa and qu’. We will also be starting our new topic ‘Knights and Castles’.

Pupil Voice:

AD: F and I built a big mansion and i really enjoyed it.

IM: I loved literacy, my favourite thing is to learn new sounds.

CJ: A and I built a football pitch with lego and it was fun.

AT: I liked learning about the joint phonemes and also numbers in maths.

REMINDERS:

P.E is Monday and Thursday.

Please ensure all children are bringing a waterproof jacket to school each day. This is needed for break and lunch, and outdoor learning opportunities.

Our Fortnight in Room 24

Last week we started to go outside with the new P1s (our buddies) at break and lunchtime. It was nice seeing them settling in and finding new friends.

After school on Thursday our parents came in to see what we were doing and to meet our teacher. They could see of the work on our walls already.

For numeracy we did logic puzzles which we’d say is better than normal math in the first week back, hands down!

Ollie & Lucas

This week, we have been lots including doing dodgeball, writing, and math.

Our buddies have settled in so well they don’t need us as much anymore 🙁 We know this is a good thing though 🙂

We have started dodgeball in PE that everybody enjoys. We were working in teams of 6 or 7 and did a tournament to find the best players and team.

We all went into trios and completed word problems in math that were scattered around the class. It was great seeing everybody working together in groups 🙂

In writing we were describing a picture with our five senses: hear, see, smell, touch and taste. We had rain and storm sounds on in the background too to help us with our setting descriptions. We’re going these descriptions to add to our writing next week.

Our First Week in Room 5 :)

What an amazing first full week of primary 2 this has been!

This week we learned different strategies to help us with our mental maths. We also focused on number work, counting forwards and backwards, missing numbers and recognising numbers 0-100 and beyond. In literacy, we focused on a different sound per day ‘sh, ch, th, ng, wh’ and our common words ‘have, your, only, by’. We created our own self portrait, using black paper and white pencil focusing on our shading. We created our class charter, learned all about the rights we have as children and created our own lollipop superhero as we will protect our class charter at all times. We also spent time getting to know our classroom and playing with the new toys to help us learn new skills. We learned how to share, think critically and how to problem solve.

Pupil voice:

ORM- I enjoyed learning numbers.

CJ- I enjoyed playing with the lego and building.

AD- I enjoyed building with number cubes to create a long tower.

ST- I liked working with my new jotter.

CJ- I liked doing work in my jotter.
