We have had such an exciting time in Primary 2 celebrating Maths Week Scotland! We used to think maths was just about doing sums, but this week we learned that maths is all around us—especially inside our favourite story books. We read three brilliant books and used them to explore lots of different types of maths.

On Monday, we read What’s the Time, Mr Wolf? We learned all about time! We practised telling the time using o’clock and when certain events happen during the day. We even played a game where we had to sort out event cards into Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night Time

On Tuesday, we read Six Feet Long and Three Feet Wide. This book was all about measurement! We used our feet to measure lots of things around our classroom. We found out how long and wide our desks, teaching boards, doorways. Measuring things with our feet was so much fun, and we loved comparing who had the longest! We also worked out that lots of us a different sized feet just like in the story.

Finally on Wednesday, we read Tally Cat Keeps Track. Tally Cat taught us how to count and collect data using tally marks! We learned the special trick: four vertical lines and one diagonal line across the middle makes a gate of five. We went on a hunt around the class with whiteboards and pens asking the class about our favourite fruit, eye colour and favourite playground activity.

We loved Maths Week Scotland so much. Maths is everywhere and it is super fun!
