Learning lately in room 8!

Since returning from the Christmas holidays we have been super busy in room 8!
We love our time on the chrome books and learning to independently send and receive emails as well as carry out our very own research.
In literacy we are continuing to learn new sounds and common words. Please encourage your child to revise these words at home when possible. Recently we have been focusing on our comprehension skills. We can summarise our texts, make predictions and connections about our text, identify the main character, discuss the problem and solution and are currently focusing on identifying the main idea of a text.

Have you heard what our new topic is…

‘Chocolate’. We are super excited to begin learning all about chocolate, how it is made, where it comes from, how to make our very own chocolate and learn about a local ‘chocolate’ business.

In maths we are currently focusing on ‘subtraction’. Primary 2’s are learning to subtract within 20 and being challenged where possible.
P3 are focusing on subtraction within 100.  This week we are also looking at Fact Famillies, linking subtraction and addition.

In P.E we will be focusing on our fitness this term. The boys and girls have been working up a sweat carrying out their ‘ Beat That’ workouts. This includes carrying 6 different excercises within a time limit. Why not get your child to show you their excercises.

We concluded our ‘extinct and endangered animals’ topic from last term. The children absolutely loved this topic and learned so much from it. It was a delight seeing them so enthusiastic about their learning.

REMINDER- please ensure your child brings their reading book to school everyday.
Thank you

Mrs K and room 8 xx
