Computing Club is Magic

We have been very busy at our clubs over the past couple of weeks. Our Scratch club has been working on short animations about Scotland – our topic in school. We are going to record some sounds to add on to our animations and look forward to showing them off when they are finished.

Our Kodu club have been continuing with game making. We learned that games have a target audience and that’s why their are lots of different ratings on them so they tell people if they are suitable for them or not.  We made maze games this week and we also have been learning more about the features of Kodu too and how to improve on the game such as adding in a countdown timer to start the game off or changing the colour of the sky in the game world.

Our maze games and different coloured worlds we have been making.

Our Friday club have been learning magic tricks and then learning the computing science behind the magic trick. So far we have learned that an algorithm is a set of instructions to follow (which we did to make the trick work). We also learned about a structure diagram, this is a diagram that shows the decisions you have to make when performing the trick and what options you have available to you. Today we learned a bit about binary – the language of computers and how to perform another trick called Birthday bingo where we guess the persons birthday it was loads of fun and we cant wait to show everyone at assembly.
