Dear Parent/Carer

Yet another month is past and the term is well under way. There is a lot of things happening in school in the coming weeks, please keep this newsletter safe.

Parent CouncilThanks to the members of the Parent Council who were able to make the latest meeting. The members of the Council are busy working with the school for the benefit of all the children. Hopefully in the coming weeks and months things around this work will be more apparent, especially in the playgrounds.

After School Clubs Our clubs are once again proving to be very successful, with full attendances at almost all the clubs. Can I remind parents and carers that pupils who sign up for clubs are expected to be here every week. If you have to take the pupils away, can you please provide a letter/ note letting us know. This ensures that everyone is kept safe at the clubs.

Scottish Showcase A huge thank you to everyone who made both the Burns Supper and the Scottish Showcase such a great success. It was fabulous to see the confidence in all our pupils, as they sang songs, recited poetry and danced their way around the hall. The showcase events are a marvellous way to highlight the hard work of both staff and pupils, and a chance for parents and carers to share in that work.

Website – Over the past few years, we have tried to embrace the digital age and the use of Social Media such as Twitter, to keep parents and carers fully informed of life in the school. Pupils have shared their learning through the Twitter account (@RoystonPrimary) and the computing club have been blogging about their work too. With this in mind, we have changed the school website to make it easier to add things to and more accessible to more parents and carers. Please take time to visit the new site (https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/gc/roystonprimary/) Part of this new site is a facility to translate letters and information into various different languages. Hopefully, this will prove to be useful in the school. Thanks also to the handful of parents, carers and grandparents who were able to come along to this year’s Internet Safety Discussion. I know from speaking with them, they found the afternoon to be very informative and well worthwhile.

Volunteers – As always we are looking for ways to bring more parental volunteers into the school. In the past, parents have worked with Strathclyde University on supporting the children in school; parents have helped out at the Community Gardens; and have helped with toothbrushing. Due to family demands, we require additional parents to support the toothbrushing in Primary 1 & 2. If you could spare 30 mins a day to help with this, please contact the office to arrange a timetable. In addition to the toothbrushing, I have been approached by Glasgow City Council, offering training for a parent/ carer who would be willing to work with the Primary 6 & 7 pupils on cycling. This would be for 6 – 8 weeks, an hour a week and would be open to when volunteers could offer their help. Again, if you are able to help here, can you contact the office to come in for a chat.

Diary Dates – There are a number of important dates and events coming up; please keep the newsletter safe,

Parental Feedback Results – Thanks once again to all the parents who completed the Parental Questionnaires. We selected a random group from each class and issued parents and carers with a questionnaire to gather their views on the school. I am still short of a few of these forms and would appreciate them being returned to give as accurate a picture as possible. The next stage is to gather the views of the pupils and once this has been done, both results will be published. Ideally, this will be done ahead of the March Newsletter.

Primary 7 Trip – Miss Tarbert has managed to secure a booking for the Blairvadach Outdoor Centre for our Primary 7 pupils. This visit is scheduled to take place on Thursday 11th June ’15. A separate letter is being issued for the Primary 7 pupils, giving more information. If you require additional information, please get back in touch with the office to arrange this.

Thank you for your continued and on-going support.
