SQA Baking this week involved making some shortbread for sensory play, we mixed it up, rolling it and stretched it and squashed it – it smelt really good!!

We have been successful learners in literacy concentrating on the letter ‘H’ making the sound, looking for words that start with that letter, and then we made some lovely Horse pictures for our alphabet books.

SQA Communication we have started studying Inside Out, so we watched a little bit of the film and we are going to decorate plates to look like all of the characters, starting with ‘JOY’

Our IDL Theme this term is Scotland, we are reading Hamish McHaggis and the Edinburgh Adventure, we learned some more Scottish Words and made Haggis Pictures, using different colours and textures of wool.

Even while doing your MOVE you can’t get out of doing your Art work!!

We played a game of Haggis Drive, using our new big dice.

We have been busy working on our Scottish topic this week with lots of fun learning experiences. We researched the Highland Games and learned about the different events during this day. We had a go at our own ‘Haggis Toss’ & ‘Farmer’s Race’.

We watched some clips from the film Brave and talked about the different ways we all show bravery. We agreed that it is ok to feel scared at first but when we find courage, we can overcome our fears. We played a games to experience feeling a bit scared and being brave.

We got to experience some Scottish Country dancing and Scottish drumming.

IDL evidence – 3D castle

As part of our Brave theme, we have been looking at castles this week. We have enjoyed looking at castles on the board and finding out where there are castles in Scotland, Do you know there are over 1000 castles in Scotland?

We made our very own castle, using pictures to help our design. We chose which castle to try and copy and which box to use. We also decided which colours and materials to use to decorate it.

We were all very happy with the way it turned out!

ILP: Community Signs and Symbols

We worked hard this morning on recognising and identifying different signs and symbols we might find in our local environment.

We looked at the different shapes and colours of signs and what they are telling us.  We then made up our own signs for our class rules.   We were very responsible citizens as we walked around the community.

Taking turns and playing games

This week we have been focusing on taking turns and playing games. We have used games from the cupboard and enjoyed  exploring them and then with support from staff playing them together.
We played animal dominoes and had to find the same animal to put down next. A class favourite was “Wally the washer”. Each person had a washing line and had to push the button on the washing machine to see what items fell out. We were confident individuals pushing the button which opened the machine door. We then had to put their coloured clothes onto our washing line. We had to wait a long time as each person had a turn. We all waited really well. It was a fun afternoon.

50 things outdoors -catch

This week we have been outdoors lots. We have been playing lots of games and having fun. Some of the children have been running playing tig with peers and staff. We took a ball out and played catch. We stood in a circle and threw the ball and tried to catch it when it was thrown to us. It was fun and everyone enjoyed it. We also took some scarfs out to throw up in the air. They came down much slower than the ball.
