LGBT – Rainbow Skittles

Successful Learners   Confident Individuals

The Snowdrops have enjoyed more LGBT theme activities this week. We have explored different colours and have made  beautiful rainbows. The Snowdrops also showed a lot of interest in our science experiment to see if we could make a rainbow using skittles and water. Everyone was very confident when pouring the water and everyone thought the colourful results were amazing!

Kindness

*Responsible Citizens       *Successful Learners

This week we reminded ourselves to be kind to others. We made a tree of kindness, danced to ‘kindness’ music and read the bible story, ‘The Good Samaritan’. We explored how to care for animals so that they are well looked after and happy.

The Daisies class have enjoyed this week’s rainbow activities to celebrate LGBT History Month. We enjoyed a science activity making rainbow bubble snakes.

We used a plastic bottle, sock, elastic band, some fairy liquid and food colouring to set up this science experiment. We loved catching the bubble snakes as they appeared out of the bottle and some of us were brave enough to try it with our own water bottles.

Rainbow Activities in the Daisies!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

During the month of February, Willowbank School is celebrating LGBT month. We had spotted the rainbow flag flying outside the school during our local area walk last week. Today we decided to centre our science activities around rainbows.

We used a torch and shone it through a glass of water and looked for rainbow colours. We looked closely at CDs and looked for rainbow colours reflecting in the light. We blew bubbles and looked for rainbow colours as we popped them.

Finally, we used skittles and poured hot water on them and watched for rainbow colours forming. We were very happy with the results!

Scottish landmarks – Loch Ness

It’s been a great week in the Comets. We have been busy with looking at the Loch Ness and it’s monster!

We watched some videos of the Loch Ness and Nessie. We then hunted for the Loch Ness monster in the school and found some very interesting facts about the monster and the Loch Ness. We made the monster out of play doh and we even did some Loch Ness Monster origami. The comets had Greta fun learning about Loch Ness and Nessie.

We also practiced trying our show laces and did out local walk around the community. We looked at different signs and saw a lot of things on our walk. We were safe throughout our walk and responsible.

The comets did a science experiment. They put water into gloves and then we put them in the freezer. We are going to see if they are frozen when we come back and how long they take to melt. The comets also drew on their gloves so they looked great.

Comets made love hearts for Valentine’s Day and some of them gave it to their class mates. They had fun cutting the shapes, gluing and writing on them.

The comets did a lot of hard work this week and have been really busy. They have worked well with each other and have been responsible with new tasks and in the class.

There are some pictures from Miss a Robertsons leaving party with Comets. They had a lot of fun and have been missing her.

Have a great February break.

IDL: Chinese New Year

*Successful Learners*    *Effective Contributors*

We celebrates Chine New Year recently by having a sensory afternoon in class where we explore all things Chinese.

We made a traditional Chinese drum, attempted to write numbers and animals in Mandarin using dough, paint and coloured rice and listened to traditional Chinese music.   We also had great fun attempting to make our very own fortune cookies!  It wasn’t a very successful venture but we loved giving it a go!

50 things outdoors

Bird feeders

Yesterday we threaded cheerios onto pipe cleaners and then tied them together to make a love heart shape. Today we took them into the garden and hung them on the trees for the birds. Next week we will go out and see if they have been eaten by the birds over the holiday weekend.
