Responsible Citizens – Releasing Butterflies

It was a happy/sad day in the Transition Classroom when we released our beautiful butterflies. We had seen them grown from tiny caterpillars into very big caterpillars then eventually into butterflies. The boys were Responsible Citizens when we finally released the butterflies. The butterflies hung around for a while showing off their colours in the sensory garden before flying off into the sunshine.

Life Cycles – Successful Learners

The Transition Class were successful learners when studying the life cycle of a butterfly. We started with a cup of caterpillars and the boys observed them growing in size and molting every day. The last molt revealed the chrysalis which was put into the butterfly habit. Once the butterflies had emerged the boys handled models of all the stages of the life cycle ending in our beautiful butterflies. We released them in the sensory garden (separate blog post).

Tuesday the 16th of June

Hello everyone,

It’s the second last week of term! How did that happen? It has definitely been a different term at Willowbank. This week we would have had two big activities. The prom was meant to be this Friday and we would have had a POLO (Power Off Learning Outside) day as well.  The activities for this week are a mix of the two events. I hope that you have lots of fun doing them.

Here are this week’s activities Home learning 16th June

There will be a virtual prom at the end of the week. I have listed some of the dances that we will be doing but feel free to make your own playlist and your own amazing dance moves. Send pictures of you at your virtual prom.

Stay healthy and be kind to each other.

Monday 8th June

Hello everybody!

Another week already! I hope you are all still keeping well. The weather for this week looks quite mixed. The home learning this week is a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities so you can dodge any potential rain showers! I have chosen two activities from Wilderness Outdoor Education. They have lots of good activities. You all know I like my food so there is another fire-pit recipe and some work around the human body. I would love to see pictures of your creations.

Here is this week’s learning. Home learning 8th June

Hello everybody,

I hope you enjoyed the lovely weather over the weekend. The Transition team enjoyed the weather in their gardens and there were a few BBQs. If we had been at school we would have taken part in Sports Day this week. Keep your eyes peeled for a whole school sports day video on the blog this week.

Below is the link to this week’s home learning if you would like some ideas for activities.

Tuesday May the 26th

Hello everybody,

I hope you have had a nice ‘long weekend’.

This week we were supposed to be going on our residential trip, but we are healthy and happy at home in stead. The weather look better so this week’s learning is linked to being outdoors. There are video instructions below for different activities and I’ll be on the blog later this week with some activities that we would have done on our residential. Links below are from East Ayrshire’s Learning Outdoor Support Team (LOST).

Monday the 18th of May

Hello everybody!

The weather isn’t quite as nice this week is it? Never mind, the rain is needed to let plants grow (and it gives us a nice excuse to be indoors for a change!). The Transition team hope that you are all well and looking after each other.

It’s careers week this week so the task that I have suggested are all linked to different jobs. There are some suggestions for activities at home and some videos to watch that tell you about different jobs. I wonder what your dream job is? It can be anything you like. Why don’t you draw a picture of you doing your dream job and share it with us? My dream job would have to be Explorer. Imagine all the places you’d visit and the exciting things you’d see!

The link to activities is here
