Theme: Yogi and the Great Outdoors – Measure

Successful Learners   Confident Individuals

The Moonbeams have been learning about Measure through their theme. The children were able to sign big, small, long and short. We looked at things we would find outside. The children were able to recognise, identify and order these from biggest to smallest. We then had some sensory fun looking for big and small objects in the sand and water beads.

Theme work

Our new theme is based around Scotland. We have been reading Hamish McHaggis and the great Glasgow treasure hunt. We then matched images from the book. They included places like Pollock park, Kelvingrove Museum and Riverside Museum, It was great fun. We looked at each of these places and the different things we would see if we went there.

FAOL Science

We have been learning about butterflies in the Sunflowers class. Today we watched a video about what happens. The egg hatches into a caterpillar and eats lots of food before building a cocoon and then turned into a butterfly. We then stuck images from “The Hungry Caterpillar” book in order from the egg to the butterfly.

We will get caterpillars in the new year and watch then grow and then finally turn into butterflies and let them free in the playground.

Weather Keywords!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS *

During our IDL theme “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, the Bluebells class have looked closely at the weather. Today, the class had a challenge to see if they could read and recognise any weather words. They used the SMARTboard and matched the word to the picture and then had to sort the jumbled up letters to create the words sun, snow, rain, wind and cloud. Miss Gemmell was very impressed with our reading skills!

Printing with fruit and vegetables

Our theme is the Hungry Caterpillar. We were able to identify some fruits and vegetables and use these to complete some art work. We cut up the fruit and vegetables and dipped them in paint and made printing patterns on the paper. We investigated the print in made. Some worked better than others. We really liked the pear shape it made. We used carrots, potatoes, apples and pears.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The Stars class visited CC’s Chocolate Creations in Kilmarnock to watch the owner, Carol, make fantastic chocolate bars and shapes. Carol invited us to dip marshmallows in melted chocolate. They smelled and tasted delicious. As Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is our theme this term we bought not a golden ticket but a golden bar of chocolate for class. Yum! The rest of the class will visit CC’s Chocolate Creations on our next allocated bus day.
