The Big Orange Splot

Hello!

This week was all about the colour ORANGE in the Pine Room.

The Story ‘The Big Orange Splot’ is all about how it is good that we are not all the same!!

Firstly there was some printing with oranges and lemons – it smelt lovely…

..and was quite squishy!!!

Global Goal 11 – Climate Change

The Arctic Animals were frozen in the ice and we use a hairdryer, and some warm water so we could see the impact that the higher temperatures are having on the Arctic. We all need to do our bit for the environment and be responsible citizens.

We then enjoyed some water play.

IDL – Tending to the Garden

The Transition class took time this week to tend to their winter vegetables. The boys were Responsible Citizens when they tidied loose pots and small plants for the winter. They boys removed the fleece that had been moved by the wind from their vegetables and weeded the plot. They then replaced the fleece and secured it from the wind.

50 Things – 09 – Plan It, Grow It, Eat It

The Stars class were responsible citizens by planting cress seeds to grow to eat. We painted lovely Hallowe’en mugs to grow them in.

Responsible Citizens – Up-cycling

The Transition boys have a long way to go before their up-cycled greenhouse is complete. This week the boys focused on their motor skills and risk management when they cut the bottom off each bottle so that they slot together on the canes. The boys were all Responsible Citizens focusing on up-cycling to reduce plastic waste.

Responsible Citizens – Assessing Risk

The Transition boys recalled their knowledge from previous weeks’ work to assess risky situations and demonstrate that they are Responsible Citizens. The class worked through several scenarios which showed either risky behaviour or safe behaviour. The boys managed to sort them into a ‘thumbs up’ pile or a ‘thumbs down’ pile. Some boys even demonstrated safe behaviours.

Responsible Citizens – Up-cycling Green House Roof

The Transition boys were Responsible Citizens while re-cycling plastic bottles to make a roof for the greenhouse in the garden. They put the cut bottles onto long canes, secured these with tape and took them out to the greenhouse to put them under waterproof sheeting. This will help insulate the greenhouse and help stop the water collecting on the roof.

Responsible Citizens – Identifying Risks

It was risky business again this week in the Transition class! The class were Responsible Citizens when they discussed the risks in a park and a swimming pool. They identified the risks on the interactive board and marked it down on their worksheets.

Responsible Citizens – Upcycling the greenhouse in the garden.

The boys were  Responsible Citizens whilst upcycling the greenhouse using plastic from the RAF. They all contributed by unfolding the plastic laying it across the top of the greenhouse and helping cut  to size to fit before it was stapled down.

FAOL – Global Goals 8 and 9 – Decent work and economic growth

The Stars class made a poster showing child work and poverty abroad. After printing pizza vegetables we used our switches to take pizza orders then created pictures of our choices. Pepperoni was very popular!

Responsible Citizens Sikhism

The Transition boys were Responsible Citizens when they learned about the different aspects of Sikhism. The class have been reading ‘The Boy in the Dress’ which introduced some basic ideas. The boys enjoyed exploring this further.
