We have done a few activities throughout the week to signify Earth Day. We discussed ways to save energy and recycling followed by a trip to the park where we did a nature scavenger hunt. We planted seeds and built a den in class. Inside the den we read a book by torchlight to show how difficult it would be to do things if we were short of electricity. We also made a microwave sponge which uses less energy to cook than in a conventional oven.

We did some lovely Easter themed activities this week. We created an Easter card, had a shapes treasure hunt and handled lots of different animals at the ‘Petting Zoo’. We had good fun following clues to find the Easter bunny and were rewarded by a chocolate egg from him. At science we did a ‘Humpty Dumpty’ experiment where we explored different ways to save an egg from breaking when dropped from a height. This was good fun. We joined other classes from the upper primary for an outdoor disco where we played games as well as danced. A good week has been had by all.

We created rainbow flags, had a colour hunt and danced to colour diversity, family and Pride songs. At science we did colour experiments. At HE we made tasty coloured traffic light sandwiches which we had for snack. On Purple Friday we created a purple octopus at art and enjoyed sensory handling. We had a very busy week of activities.
Bird feeders
Yesterday we threaded cheerios onto pipe cleaners and then tied them together to make a love heart shape. Today we took them into the garden and hung them on the trees for the birds. Next week we will go out and see if they have been eaten by the birds over the holiday weekend.

We created lovely Valentine’s cards to take home and made tasty Jam Heart biscuits, They tasted really yummy! We also made Ice Ornaments for the garden. We collected buds, leaves and flowers then froze them in water, not forgetting to dip string into the water before freezing. We hung them in the garden where they sparkled in the sunshine before melting.

We enjoyed a Scottish activities morning in class where we recited Robert Burn’s Selkirk Grace before our snack of pancakes. We used rhythm sticks to tap out the rhythm of ‘Donald Whaur’s Yer Troosers’ and danced the St Bernard’s Waltz. We played boccia with tatties, instead of balls, and had fun welly whanging where we hurled wellies at a target. We played the Hokey Cokey my putting ‘oor richt airm in’ and sang Scottish children’s songs.
We played hopscotch in the garden and created a Robert Burns silhouette picture.
