We have been enjoying seeing lots of different faces at assembly over the past few months. We join virtual and Mr Campbell shares information with us. This week we were learning some Halloween signs and dancing to a spooky Halloween song. We all sit and listen during assembly and are able to join in by copying the signs and joining in with the dances. We also have a star of the week each week and that person is a confident individual comes to the front to collect their certificate and share the good news with the whole school.

FAOL – Good Health and Wellbeing
*Successful Learners* *Confident Individuals* *Responsible Citizens*
The Snowdrops have really enjoyed looking at, touching, smelling and tasting a variety of healthy foods. For trying new healthy foods we followed the process of smelling it first, then kissing it with our lips, touching it with our tongues and then finally popping it in our mouths to eat. Everyone did really well following these steps for the first time.
We have also looked at and explored foods that are unhealthy for us and discuss why they were not good for us. We were then able to identify and sort a variety of foods into the 2 different groups of healthy and unhealthy.
FAOL Science
The we had fun exploring floating and sinking in science. We chose a variety of different of items to put into the box full of water. The children were confident individuals and able to choose a variety of class items to put in the water and able to guess with pictures whether it would float or sink. We then chose different vegetables and guessed whether they would float or sink before placing them in the water to see what happens.
FAOL ECO: Goal 2- Zero Hunger
We have enjoyed exploring harvest festival traditions this week.
We linked this to our ECO goal ‘No Hunger’ and were responsible citizens, donating our extra foods to those less fortunate.
We were confident individuals and sorted different foods by their food group and explore healthy and less healthy foods too!
FAOL Polar Bear Blubber experiment
This week the Comets class were successful learners during Science. We were learning about Polar Bears and how they are able to keep warm in freezing cold temperatures.
Firstly, the children dipped their hands into icy water to feel how cold it was. From some of our reactions you can see it was freezing!
Secondly, we put our hands in a plastic bag and dipped them into the lard (blubber.) We then dipped our hands into the water again to see if there was a change in the temperature.
The children were all amazed at how much warmer their hands felt with the protective layer of blubber.
The Asteroids have had lots of fun as they baked their MacMillan cupcakes. They were very confident when gathering the ingredients using the recipe and they loved cracking the egg and stirring the mixture. The boys chose which colour of cupcake case they wanted and were able to sign or say some of the key ingredients and processes.
They then had great fun making three different colours of icing. They enjoyed squirting in the different food colouring and watching what happened to the white icing when they added the colouring. The boys chose which colours to ice their cupcakes from the MacMillan Cancer charity colours – white, green and purple. Most of them opted for using all three!
They all enjoyed eating their cupcakes for afternoon snack!
The boys also enjoyed making a large cupcake to stick on the classroom door and Percy Pig noses to wear when getting our photos taken as Percy Pig.
Today we enjoyed taking part in lots of different activities to raise money for MacMillan.
We were confident individuals and decorated some cakes with our choice of sprinkles, were effective contributors and designed our own cupcake as a class, and enjoyed building a picture of a gingerbread man.
FAOL MacMillian coffee morning
The Comets have been effective contributors for our Macmillian Coffee Morning. Today we have been very busy participating in different types of fun activities.
The children have designed their own cupcakes, enjoyed colouring in and made some delicious cakes- some of us even got to pretend to be Percy Pig!
Eco Global Goal – Zero Hunger
* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *
The Daisies class were very responsible looking at the global goal ‘Zero Hunger’. We looked closely at some pictures (the hungry caterpillar, Oliver Twist, Bruce Bogtrotter) and discussed whether they looked hungry or full.
We also spoke about how we would feel if we had a full tummy and also how we would feel if we had a hungry tummy.
Finally, we spoke about food that we liked and disliked and sorted them into categories on a poster.
FAOL Science: Balloon Cars
Yesterday, we were successful learners and explored forces during our Science lesson.
We carefully follow instructions to create a car, then added a balloon to act as the force. Some of our peers were confident individuals and made a prediction about what would happen after the balloon was released.
