It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

The boys in the Transition class have all been Effective Contributors this week as we have started our preparations for our school Christmas show. Every day we have been practising our signing and have made our Christmas tree decoration to go on the display wall.

FAOL – ECO – Clean Water and Sanitation

The Stars Class made a rain catcher to collect water in the garden. We sieved it through paper to see how clean it was to drink. It was full of dirt and leaves. We are so lucky to have clean water from the tap to drink and wash in. Some boys and girls from abroad are not so lucky and have to drink dirty water from rivers or lakes. We have also planted spring bulbs in the garden. We hope they will grow into colourful daffodils and tulips.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

With the glut of pumpkins in Kilmarnock (Killiewe’en had passed, what’s this Hallowe’en thing?) the Transition boys decided to make pumpkin pie. They were all Effective Contributors when they read and followed the recipe.  Skills included; weighing, measuring, melting, grating and baking. They were Responsible Citizens when working with the hot oven, ensuring everyone was safe. They also took the time to practice their spreading and cutting skills by having a tea and toast social. A great Autumnal feast!

October Holiday Countdown

The Stars Class have enjoyed a fantastic week where we saw not only Harris McCoo but Singing Hands too. What a treat! We’ve worked hard too and made an Autumn sensory bottle, added to our Nanny McPhee wall display and made yucky ‘worm’ sandwiches at HE which actually were very tasty!

Shut the Box

The Transition boys were Effective Contributors when they played ‘Shut the Box’ this week (Mr Nicoll’s favourite game!). They had to make their own dice from a template and add the correct number of dots. The boys then worked in pairs to try and roll combinations of numbers which corresponded to the numbers from two to twelve. The first team to complete this, shut the box.

Changing Seasons

The Stars Class have noticed the trees are changing in the garden. We collected different coloured leaves and made colourful autumn prints with them. We had fun exploring a Nanny McPhee story bag and handling the props.
