Happy Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day! 🌍

I thought to celebrate you could maybe join in with some of these activities with your family.

1. Nature Photography! 📸
Grab your tablet or borrow a parent’s phone and head outdoors for some picture taking. This could be done in your garden or on your daily walk.

2. Cloud Watching! ⛅
Lay on blankets on the grass and look up at the sky. Can you see the clouds moving? Can you see any shapes? Do any of them look like faces or cloud animals?

  • 3. Earth Day Scavenger Hunt! 🌸
In your garden or on your daily walk, can you find some of the items stated below:
  • Rock
  • Stick
  • Leaf
  • Grass
  • Litter
  • Flower
  • Spider web
  • Dirt
  • Insect
  • Feather
  • Bark

How many did you find?

Just a little reminder that these activities are optional, but if you have joined in, feel free to post a comment and tell me how you got on.

Earth Day

The Stars class recycled batteries at Tesco’s and were ‘energy detectives’ where we checked that empty classes had remembered to turn off their lights, taps and computers. We built a dark den and read a book by torchlight. Snack time was held in the dark too. This showed us the importance of conserving energy and how difficult it would be without electricity.

FOAL ECO – EARTH DAY

We missed Earth Day on Monday due to a holiday so today we did some activities today. We were responsible citizens thinking about the earth. The lights were off all day and we made lovely Earth sensory pictures using shaving foam and food colouring. We mixed up the food colouring with the shaving foam and placed paper on top to create a picture. We really liked the texture of the shaving foam.

We went to the sensory room and didn’t turn any of the lights on. We had glow sticks and torches and read a story in the dark using the light from those. We then enjoyed just sitting and rolling around in the room in the dark. For the last 2 minutes we turned on the bubble tube to make it more colourful and relaxing.

Earth Day Planting!

* RESPONSiBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Moonbeams class used the opportunity of Earth day to plant some geraniums in our class planter. We all used gardening tools to dig holes, plant the geranium, pat the soil around it and then give them a much needed drink of water!

This made very effective looking Earths.

Global Goals, Earth Day…and meringues!!

This week we looked at our Global Goal – Reducing Inequalities – and considered ‘Access for All’ we looked at different ways access can be made easier, including wheelchair ramps, access buttons, guide dogs for the blind and hearing aids. Then we made a poster to be displayed in the Pine Class.

In cookery we were confident individuals making mini pavlovas, in keeping with our Australian theme – they were yummy!!!

For Earth Day we made sun catchers. Then made a Den under the big parachute, we had torches and glow in the dark toys – great fun!!!

Looking after our Earth

As part of Earth day we have taken part in activities all week that have been linked to looking after our Earth.

We used no electricity when taking part in our cooking lesson, we walked into town rather than using transport and we tidied up our garden patch.

We all were effective contributors when making our no bake truffles, we all had an important role to play in the process.

We worked hard on learning how to tell the time working on our ILP targets.

We walked into town with the Transition class, we went to the shops to buy colourful items for our garden patch to help brighten it up.  We are yet to be successful in growing any plants, so we are brighten up it up in other ways.

World Earth Day

To celebrate world Earth Day we enjoyed completing our activities in the garden so we were not using any electricity for light, we used the natural day light to see our work.  We found leaves and rubbed them through the paper to create our flower to remind people about recycling and looking after the earth.
