The Signs in the Community group used our knowledge and understanding of some LGBT signs and logos to recreate the Willowbank logo! We were very creative and effective contributors as we brainstormed our ideas.

LGBT Week (so far!)
The Beech class have thoroughly enjoyed our week of LGBT activities. We read a book called ‘Hello, Sailor!’ and took part in lots of different activities. We were very responsible and successful learners as we learned about sometimes difficult concepts.
Nicole made a themed lighthouse for our book!
We made nautical flags in using LGBT colours
We took part in a special assembly.
And had a blast on ‘Purple Friday!’
Gemma and Skye were excellent at showing us what makes us be a good friend.

Park School Burns’ Supper
Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens, Effective Contributors
Amber and Alysse attended the Burns’ Supper at Park School today. They met loads of friends they already knew and met new friends too.
They enjoyed a feast of haggis, tatties and neeps, before listening to and joinng in with singing some of their favourite Scottish songs.
Both girls were a credit to Willowbank

Spending Money at Burger King!
The Bluebells pupils were very responsible citizens during their outing to Burger King today. The children sat down on the seats to chose what they wanted to eat from an AAC device. Jamie demonstrated that he is a successful learner by applying his money skills to a real life context. He ordered food and then paid for it. The children really enjoyed their food and then had some fun in Soft Play.

Getting Active
Our PE group enjoying getting active first thing on a Monday morning, We are successful learners when take part in individual and partner dances. Then we go to the fitness suite and take part in more exercise. A busy fun and active Monday morning.

LGBT in the Oak room
This week we are exploring our mini topic about LGBT, we have enjoyed reading our book ‘Tango Makes Three’. The boys have completed a story board using symbols and words to retell the story. We have had a good group discussion around the book.
Blake is signing ‘boy’ as our book was about two male penguins.
Jack is signing ‘love’ as our two male penguins fell in love and wanted to have a family. We discussed that boys can not have babies so our two male penguins adopted a baby penguin to make their family complete.
It was our LGBT assembly this week and all the secondary created a fingerprint love heart to represent our Willowbank secondary community. We used our fingerprints as this is unique to us and everyone’s fingerprint is different. We celebrate difference at Willowbank.
The Oak band were confident individuals and played ‘This is Me’ on the chimes and bells to represent be proud of who you are.

LGBT MOVE
MOVE group were confident individuals today, we listened to our LGBT book ‘Tango Makes Three’, we then created a penguin family piece of art work using our fingerprints. Making our painting unique to us! We listened and sang ‘This is me’ whilst taking it in turns to play our instruments.
Adam was very lucky and got to try out a new walker for comfort and size.

Water Use
All the boys in the Sunflowers class are really good at washing their hands. They are able to turn off the tap when they are finished washing their hands to save water. We looked at different ways in which we use water at school. A homework sheet was also given out so the pupils could circle the different ways they use water at home.

Purple Week in the Snowdrops
The Snowdrops have been responsible citizens looking at pictures of different families on the SMARTboard. We have been practising Makaton signs of family words and trying hard to say new words or sounds. Snowdrops were confident individuals moving around the school looking for the colourful LGBT flag and pointing to school LGBT work displayed on our boards. We have been spotting all the colours on the flag and painting our own flags. The Snowdrops have also enjoyed a story book called No Matter What, all about unconditional love.
The Sungazers are ‘Successful Learners’ , they are learning how money is used and can recognise and use a range of coins at the class snack café. The children enjoy taking on the role of cashier and customer at snack time. They use a variety of communication aids to support their learning.
