The Sungazers have been enjoying their theme story called ‘No Such Thing As Nessie!’ They are good at picking out some of the characters and key words in the story. We have also been having great fun with bubbles as part of our 50 Things Challenge.

The Bluebells class looked closely at the numbers 1-10 in Chinese. We listened to a song and heard the Chinese words for the numbers 1-10 and then we tried to make the numbers using play doh. We also attempted to write the numbers using a whiteboard pen. This was tricky but we gave it a really good try!

Successful Learners – Effective Contributors
The Snowdrops have enjoyed finding out about the animals in our Gruffalo story and know that they make their home in the woods. We have been looking at short video clips showing different animal homes. Everyone made great contributions to handling and exploring different habitat textures – grass, sand, water and ice. The Snowdrops played with toy animals and had fun sorting them into their correct habitats.

The Transition boys had a great time this week when they shared games. They were Confident Individuals and worked very well together. Some great numeracy skills were on display using dice, counters, spinners and timers. Some boys used the time to practice literacy skills. A great effort by all.

The Transition boys were Successful Learners in their SQA Residential class. They used the computer to find out about Dumfries House and print extracts of what they found. The boys went even further and used their literacy skills when they asked if they could type up short summaries or titles for each photograph they selected. They worked extremely hard!

It was the Transition Class’s turn to take the assembly this week. The theme was Friendship. The boys were Effective Contributors and took turns at demonstrating what you can do with friends. The pictures show the boys rehearsing for their assembly

The Stars class collected leaves and new buds from the garden, placed in a paint tray then covered them with water. Had the weather been cold we would have put the tray outside to freeze however as the weather has been mild we froze them in the school freezer instead. This produced fantastic ice ornaments which unfortunately soon melted.

At cookery yesterday we made rat biscuits for the year of the rat. We made grey icing to cover the biscuit then we added a white chocolate button for a nose, two edible eyes and the fizzy laces for his whiskers. The children were able to confidently choose each item they needed to make their own rat.

It was out class assembly this week. We sat at the front of the assembly hall facing all our friends. Our assembly was about Friendship. We shared what we like to do with our friends in the Sunflowers class. We made our own friendship recipe and someone from every class helped. We were confident individuals and chose a friend to give a lovely friendship card we had made to.

Well Done Sunflowers!

The Bluebells class have been working hard on our ILP targets this week. We enjoyed having a hair salon in class where we practised brushing our own hair and styling the doll’s hair. We had lots of fun!
