LGBT Study – And Tango Makes Three

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Bluebells class have enjoyed reading a new story this week. We read the true story called “And Tango Makes Three”. The story takes place in Central Park Zoo where two male penguins Roy and Silo meet and fall in love. They are met with some challenges along the way but the story ends up with them having a daughter named Tango and they are a loving family of three.

We really enjoyed reading this story and we also researched pictures of the real life Roy, Silo and Tango before creating our own using shapes and coloured card. Finally, we found some online penguin themed jigsaws which we have enjoyed doing.

LGBT pizzas at cookery

February is LGBT history month. We are reading a book called “The Family Book”. It is all about different families – the similarities and differences. Some families are big and some families are small. We have been looking at the rainbow flag and we made a rainbow pizza in cookery. We spreading the tomato on the base and then added our toppings.

Rainbow Sensory Writing

As part of our communication SQA, we used a variety of sensory materials to practise our writing and fine motor skills to create images, marks or messages for someone to read.  We also incorporated a rainbow theme to the activity in honour of LGBTQ Month 🙂   The full class worked really hard and showed excellent concentration skills! We were very successful learner’s.

Café!

Skye, Nicole and Milly were lucky enough to be invited along to our community café this morning.  Our café is hosted by some other secondary pupils, including our very own Beech girl, Gemma.  Gemma used her number knowledge to work the tills and communicated effectively.  Nicole and Skye very much enjoyed the café experience and used excellent verbal communication to order and then use good manners after they finished.  A lovely morning had by all – very responsible citizens!

Giraffes Can’t Dance

We have been exploring the story of ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ for LGBT awareness month. We enjoyed exploring how we all have different hobbies, and are all similar in some ways and different in others.

We created our own ‘Gerald the Giraffe’ puppets and were effective contributors and  used our favourite colours to create a herd of giraffes that were all different.

Looking for the Fairtrade logo

On Monday we went to Tesco on the school bus. We went around the shop looking for the Fairtrade logo on different items. We all found items. We then had a snack in the café. It was great fun.

FAOL – ECO – Responsible Consumption and Production

The Stars class made a recycling poster and discussed how we can recycle at home. We decorated a canvas bag so that we can use it every time we go on outings to save using throw away plastic bags. On a supermarket outing we recycled used batteries from the school.

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS *

The Bluebells class have enjoyed celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight. We have looked closely at the fairtrade logo and enjoyed drawing and colouring our own on the SMARTboard. We also used fairtrade chocolate to make chocolate crispy cakes. We shared them with all of our friends in the Infant Corridor. They were yummy!
