Snowdrops’ Home Learning Activities

Good morning Snowdrops!

Mrs Smith and Mrs Brown hope you are safe and well.

Parents/carers: as before, there are 4 areas of learning activities for you to do. Please do what you can and if you’d like to take a photo of what you have been doing, feel free but definitely not a requirement. You can send your photos to kathleen.smith2@eastayrshire.org.uk

Literacy

Fine motor and writing activities:

• Some of the Snowdrops are learning to write their own names. Here’s a fun writing activity to do on a tablet. Which letters do you need for your name? Can you write them on your tablet?

Squiggling letters game (handheld device only)-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/games/get-squiggling-letters-mobile

•Play dough activity: You might have shop bought dough at home, but if not you and your parent/carer could make some together. Kneading the dough will be great for hand and finger strength. Please see the recipe below if you decide to make your own.
Roll out dough and cut different shapes with cookie cutters or play dough shapes you might already have. You could also make long worm shapes and then cut them up into smaller pieces. You can also squeeze and roll the dough and make marks with your fingertips. Hand over hand from a parent/carer can help too.

Recipe suggestion: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/playdough-recipe

Numeracy

The Snowdrops love Numberblocks.  Here’s a wee activity to help recognise and count numbers to 5. If you want to try the activities to 10, feel free. Parents/carers can help if need be with hand over hand.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/games/numberblocks-make-and-play

Can you say or point to the numbers as they appear on screen?

Health & Wellbeing

This week, I encourage you to go for a local walk with someone from home. Before you go on your walk decide on an object/animal you are going to spot. For example: Can you spot a bird? Can you point to the bird? Can you hear it tweet or see it fly? Can you count all the birds you spot?

Or you might decide that you are going to try and spot objects that are blue. How many do you see? What kind of objects did you spot?

Have fun and remember to look and listen too!

Science/Music

Let’s make some sound jars!

Throughout the week, you could collect containers and their lids from dinners e.g. jars, takeaway tubs, tins, plastic bottles, etc.

Fill each container with different items you have in the house: pasta, rice, lentils/pulses, buttons, beads, corks, money, etc. Encourage your child to help you decide which same items go in which containers and help you to fill the containers, so they use many of their senses in this activity.

For example, one jar could have buttons in it, another could have rice and another could have lego bricks.

Questions to ask:
Which items make the loudest sound?
Which one makes the softest/most quiet sound?
Did you think of any things that were too big for the containers?

Have a shake and make some music!

Have fun!

Well Hello Pinettes – How are you all???

Have you all had a Spidery Week?

Well this Blog is all about the Birds – remember away back in April of last year we had a Blog all about ‘Feed the Birds‘.  So you can look back at this and see if there are any of the activities you want to do again.

Now the weather has been very cold, rainy, snowy, icy, and windy… everything but sunny!!! So again we will suggest the Movie ‘Mary Poppins’ or ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ – or watch both over the week!!! Lots and lots of brilliant music, songs and dances.

Home Learning – Week 1

Hello Sunflowers!

We are really missing you and hope you are staying safe at home! Some of you may have lockdown packs. However, here are some fun activities to do at your own leisure.

Literacy – In class we love to spot and sound letters.  I hope you enjoy our alphabet song.  Afterwards, can you complete the snake actions for our ‘s’ sound?   I am sure there are lots of items that begin with the letter ‘s’ around your house! Can you name some or point to them in the picture below?

Letter S-Things that begins with alphabet S-words starts with S-Objects that starts with letter S - YouTube

Numeracy – Listen to our rainbow song and look at all of the wonderful colours around you.  Point to the colours and name them if you can.  Now, let’s go on a colour hunt!  Try to gather as many items around your home and place them in the correct colours.

Color Hunt - Super Simple

Art – Now it’s time to get creative!  Use the items you have collected to make a rainbow.  Listen along to our rainbow song to help you! You could use anything you have! It may be fruit or toys or cars.

Found Object Rainbow - Albany Institute of History and Art

Health and Wellbeing- It’s really important to get some fresh air and exercise during this time.  You may be going for walks or playing in the garden.  Why not try to make an obstacle course using household items?  Find a space outdoors (or even indoors) and challenge yourself! You can do it!

Easy Ideas for reusing tyres in outdoor play areas and backyards.

I hope you have lots of fun! Take care, Miss Stalker x

Stars Home Learning Challenge W/C 11.01.2021

Happy New Year! I hope all is well with you and your families. The ladies and I are fine but are missing you all very much. We can’t wait until we can all be together again.

Find below some home learning challenges for you to do should you wish to. I will post new ones every Monday. Adjust them to suit yourselves but the main thing is to have fun!

The Glasgow Gruffalo

Listen to our theme book, The Glasgow Gruffalo by Elaine C. Smith. Can you sign the characters, mouse, fox, owl, snake and gruffalo?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olpILc_yphM

Owl on Toast

Decorate toast with chocolate spread or jam and a selection of fruit to make your very own version of owl on toast. I bet it tastes yummy.

Finding Colours

How many green things can you find in your kitchen in 30 seconds? Next time, how many red things can you find.

Counting How many underwater creatures can you find? Match your answer with the written number. Good luck!

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/underwater-counting

Sensory Sparkles

Collect shiny things like a mirror, tin foil and metal pot scourer. Darken your room and shine a torch on the shiny items. Can you see sparkles and reflections?

Winter Ice Ornaments

Collect lots of natural things from your garden or the park. e.g. leaves, cones, berries, holly leaves. Count how many items you collected.

Place these in to a cupcake tray and fill each space up with water. Remember to dip a loop of string or ribbon in to each pot.

Either leave outside to freeze, if cold enough, or put in to your freezer. How many ornaments did you make?

When frozen, hang them in your garden to decorate. Watch them. Do they melt when the sun comes out? Do they sparkle in the sunshine? Choose your favourite ornament. Why is it your favourite?

Have some fun playing the attached games. You have to be pretty fast though!

Have fun! Stay safe! 🙂
