Science Club

Sorry to let you know that the YESC Ayrshire Regional Celebration of STEM, due to take place tomorrow has been postponed date TBC.

Unfortunately, a number of industry partners, due to set hands-on STEM challenges at this event have had to pull out due to company travel restrictions. I will update you in due course of the alternative arrangements.

Science Club

Due to staff and parent commitments the Science Club will now be running on a Thursday from 3.30 – 4.30pm. We will resume the group as at Thursday 23rd of January where we look forward to starting work on the Charge STEM  competition.

See you all then.

Gargieston’s Commitment to STEM

Gargieston went all CSI during some in-house STEM training with staff participating in a Fun with Forensics course. Here at Gargieston we are committed to delivering more interactive, engaging and exciting lessons to inspire and spark interest in the STEM subjects. Learning about Forensics is just one of many opportunities we have planned.

Science Club

Gargieston Science Club started this week which saw Daniel Gorman from KESS (Kilmarnock Engineering and Science Society) deliver the first of four family learning sessions on ‘Electricity’. Children and parents enjoyed finding out about electrons and wiring their own circuits. I wonder what challenges will be set next week?

P1D’s McCoo Naming Competition

Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter our McCoo statue naming competition. We held the draw this afternoon. Now, I don’t know what the odds of this happening are. But, Ruaridh picked the name RUARIDH MCCOO out the hat! So there we have it our McCoo has got a name. All we need is for Steven Brown to add our McCoo to his clan. Fingers crossed.

P2C Global Citizenship

P2C have been particularly engaged in their learning around issues relating to the use od nonbiodegradable plastics as part of Global Citizenship this week. Have a look at the movie we made declaring what we are going to do to make a difference to our world. Excuse the long faces but we aren’t happy about this current issue.

We still have lots more ideas to help tackle the problem. Watch this space.

P2C Global Citizenship – Miss McColl

This week is Global Citizenship week, P2C have been finding out about sustainable development and the devastating effects of single use plastic on the world.  They have many great ideas about how we can refuse to use these plastics.  Look out for all they are going to do about it on the blog and around the school.  I am one very proud teacher!

Fun with Fractions P2C

Fractions have been our focus in maths over the past couple of weeks and what a lot of fun the class have had.  Our activities focused on developing an understanding of equal parts, reading, interpreting and writing in 1/2’s and 1/4’s, finding halves of quantities, objects and numbers as well as developing an understanding of the numerator and denominator.  The success the class have had in their learning has been particularly high with further challenge being added to extend understanding that bit more.

We need donations of kitchen roll tubes for an exciting STEM challenge we have planned for the children.  Any donations would be greatly received – thank you.
