Travelling Book Fair

A huge thank you  to everyone who supported the school during the visit from the Travelling Book Fair. As always the selection of books appealed to readers of all ages. We sold over £2,100 worth of books which was magnificent. This will allow us to buy £1,200 worth of books for the library and classes.

A special thank you to the group of parent helpers who assisted in running the fair. Everyone’s help was very much appreciated.

P7 Arran Residential

Our first meeting regarding the P7 residential outing to Arran will take place on Thursday 1st November at  7.15 pm

This would allow you to see a presentation on the activities you could expect your child to experience, an approximate cost, travel / sleeping arrangements and of course a chance to ask staff questions.

We would strongly urge all parents to attend even if you think your child may not attend – sometimes children change their mind as the year progresses.

Please enter details below if you plan to attend.

Many thanks and we shall look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

ECC Books

The nursery have had a clear out of our book cupboard to make some space for new ones. The books are looking for a new home,  please feel free to have a look at the pile under the notice board in the playroom.

Superstars

At this Monday’s assembly lots of certificates were awarded to our pupils. The P1-3 Superstars over the last 2 weeks were Sam Cane, Olivia Duffy, Greg McKinlay, Gemma Rankin, Anna Ferrie and Zoe Hammond. The P4-7  Superstars were Frazer Brown, Calvin Cunningham, Jessica Crossan and Arran Swift. The final photograph shows all the boys and girls throughout the school who brought in certificates, badges, trophies and medals which demonstrated their wider achievement in activities outwith school. The certificate each pupil was given was produced from a design by one of our P4 pupils, Alisha Ahmad.  Well done to Alisha and all the pupils who received awards. This was the first wider achievement assembly. This event will take place on the first Monday of every month.

Food bank donations

As part of our Rights Respecting Schools programme in the lead up to Harvest, we are again organising a food collection for the East Ayrshire Foodbank. Next Monday, 8th October, David Skilling from the Foodbank will come along to speak at our assembly and will arrange collection of our donations. We would be extremely grateful to any families who would like to make a donation of an item(s) listed on the poster above to allow us to help others in our local community. Donations can be brought to school up until Monday 8th October.

Green and Red Group

Here at the ECC we go through lots of liquid soap, tissues and kitchen roll each week. We would be very grateful if each child from the Green and Red group could kindly donate any of these items to help keep us going. The reason we are asking two groups per term is to stop our cupboards becoming overcrowded with these items.  Thank you

Christmas Cards!!

The GFG are organising the Cauliflower Christmas Card Project again this year.

The pupils are busy in class creating their own card designs and these will be coming home with order forms soon. Please look out for them.

When returning art work – please try to keep the pictures as flat as possible – do not fold up.

If you would like to purchase your child’s design please complete the order form, following the instructions and enclosing payment in the envelope provided (cash or cheques made payable to ‘Gargieston Fundraising Group’).

The first pack of 12 cards cost £5.50 and any subsequent packs of the same design cost £4.50. There is also the option to purchase mugs and gift labels if you purchase 1 pack of cards.

For each pack of cards purchased the GFG raise £1 in commission. All commission from the Christmas Cards will go towards our ‘Trim Trail Fund’.

Please return order forms and monies to the school by Monday 8th October.

Ayrshire Schools Swimming Gala

The annual schools swimming gala will take place in the afternoon of Saturday 10th November in The Citadel, Ayr for children in Primary 5, 6 and 7.

This is a very competitive event with some children aiming to qualify for the national finals in Glasgow in January. Most children who compete are linked to Clubs and training / compete regularly. However, it is also an opportunity for strong, confident swimmers to experience the excitement of a gala.

Each race is 50m and the children can enter up to 3 individual races. A relay team will be entered if there are enough children participating.

For further details or entries please contact Mrs Lawson. Children with PB times should give these along with their chosen races.

Parents would be responsible for taking / picking up their children from the venue.

Many thanks.
