ASHFIELD SCHOOL ENJOYS PICNIC

On Tuesday 24th September 2013 at Ashfield Primary we had a picnic called The One Planet Picnic. The One planet Picnic is an event that people all over Scotland have been taking part in to show that we could (and should) survive on food that has been grown/caught/harvested in Scotland. Tobermory P6/7, Renewable energies on Mull

Mr Finch from Mull and Iona Community Trust came to our class on 17th September to talk to us renewable energies on Mull and show us the Nissan Leaf.

Firstly Mr Finch judged our ‘car of the future’ competition. We had lots of ideas like solar powered, wind powered, hydro powered and biothermal cars. The winner was Finn’s Cow Pat Car. Mr Finch liked the idea of using the methane in cow pats to power a car and thought it would put cow pats to good use.

Felting at Benmore Gardens

On Thursday 5th September P5 and P7 spent an amazing day at Benmore Botanical Gardens with their teachers and support staff. On Friday 6th September P6/5 and P7/6 also enjoyed a fabulous day at Benmore. Cath and Katie from the Education Service in Edinburgh’s Botanical Gardens were the superb instructors during the visits. Each class got the fantastic opportunity to make felt, incorporating an image of a plant or greenery. These had been freshly picked from the gardens to provide inspiration for the felting project.

Kilcreggan Primary School

Last Friday our Primary 5/4 class gathered brambles from our School grounds and apples from fruit trees planted by pupils and parents earlier this year. They then came back into class and made apple and bramble crumble. There was enough for every class to try some! As you can see from the pictures it was delicious.

Achaleven Primary School Helping out Hope Kitchen

When we returned from the school holidays we discovered an abundance of crops in our school garden, from peas, giant cucumbers and carrots to a bumper crop of potatoes – which also won first prize in the Connel Flower Show last weekend!
What should we do with all these vegetables? We wanted to help others so we contacted Hope Kitchen in Oban to see if they could use them.

People Who Help Us!

Rockfield Primary 2 kicked off their ‘People Who Help Us’ topic with a visit from local PC Andrew Simpson. The children enjoyed learning about what the police do and how they can help. They especially enjoyed seeing the police van with the flashing lights. The follow up tasks in class proved to be very fruitful after the hands on experience. We have many things to look forward to that include a visit from a nurse, a postman, the mountain rescue and even some school staff. We have also been invited to the local fire station and police station. Exciting times ahead in Primary 2!

HERMITAGE STREET DANCERS

Pupils from the Hermitage Primary School Streetcheer club have enjoyed recent success at the UDO Scottish National Schools Street Dance Championships. The pupils attended dance workshops over their Summer holidays to help prepare for the competition held at the SECC in Glasgow on Friday 23rd August. Clyde begins his tour of Scotland at Colgrain

On 19th August, Colgrain Primary School celebrated tickets going on sale for the Commonwealth Games, with a visit from Clyde the Glasgow 2014 Mascot.
Colgrain were joined by Clyde on the first day of the schools tour, for an afternoon of fun learning about the games. Colgrain were also joined by Clyde’s friends Susan Eglestaff the Badminton player who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympics and David Carry, the swimmer who won two gold medals in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Lochdonhead Winners

Lochdonhead Primary School has been very successful recently in two national competitions.
In June we were told that we were the winners of the Total Green School Award run by the Young People’s Trust. In our entry we recorded and reported all the work we have done over the year to improve our school grounds. The results were reported as ‘excellent and the judges were all extremely impressed’. Almost 44,500 children took part in the Award for 2013 which emphasises the scale of our achievement. We were given a certificate and a cheque for £500. Continue reading Lochdonhead Winners

Cycling Proficiency Success at BPS!!

Cycling Proficiency Success!!
Determined, 10 Primary 7 pupils from Bowmore Primary took on the challenge of Cycling Proficiency. Theory tests were all passed in 2011 with fantastic help from Mrs Baker. On Friday 14th June with both excitement and fear, one by one we went outside with Sergeant Rae who completed our Bike Safety Check. Relieved, all of our bikes passed therefore we began practising for our practical road test.

Barcaldine Australian themed day with goodbyes to Mrs Morrison and Mrs MacEachen

Our topic for this term was Australia and it seemed fitting that we finish off the term with an Aussie day!! We were all prepared with our Aussie style hats (corks and all!!), green and yellow colours, several boomerangs as well as a didgeridoo.
Parent Council members kindly offered to make us our lunch – Australian style!! We had a variety of meats cooking on the BBQ with salads and rolls to go along with them. We finished off our lunch with ice-cream cones with an Australian flag instead of a flake!!

Health Week at St Joseph’s

Health week got off to a wonderful start at St Joseph’s this week with P3 producing a very interesting and exciting assembly on their recent topic “Health and Fitness”. It was all very appropriate as Health Week is featuring greatly in everyone’s thoughts in the school. Miss Trainer, acting PT, has done a sterling job of co-ordinating all the activities for the whole school…and hasn’t left out mums and dads either! As well as a number of exciting activities for the children, Miss Trainer has embraced the talents of a number of qualified parents to put on a few activities with a difference for parents and staff. Total Green School Awards 2013

The pupils and staff at Lochdonhead Primary School are delighted to hear that they are the winners of the Totally Active category for Scotland in the Total Green School Awards 2013. Our entry was about all the work we have done in our school grounds over the last year. We had to decide what we wanted to do with our grounds, work out how to achieve it, and we have ended up with a ‘story glen’ based on an old Gaelic tale ‘Iolaire Loch Treig’.

Macmillan Dress up and Dance Day

On Friday the 21st of June everyone at Port Charlotte Primary arrived at school dressed up in their favourite dance outfits. P3/4 went to all the classes, collected the £2 donation to Macmillan Cancer Care then totalled the amount. We raised an amazing £122.56. Thank you Macmillan your dance DVD was fun. The assembly on Friday began with a whole school warm up dance session following the movements that we had learnt during the week. Each class also performed a class dance to their own choice of music.

Forest School Sausage Sizzle @ Kilmartin

The children in P.5-7 at Kilmartin Primary School finished off their Forest School activities for the year with a sausage sizzle in the woods around the campfire. The children also made damper bread on sticks and cooked them over the fire before dipping their tasty treat into cinnamon and sugar. The older children have had a wonderful environmental experience this session, learning about the native plants and trees throughout the seasons, building a den and making wooden toys as well as developing teamwork skills.

Well done Fergus Taylor of Barcaldine Primary School

Fergus Taylor of Barcaldine Primary School came in smiling from ear to ear this morning. He was showing everyone his medal and trophy that he got from the Taynuilt Rugby Club’s Fun night on Wednesday evening.

Dunoon Primary School Rugby Winners

The Primary 6’s in Dunoon, Sandbank, Kirn and St Mun’s schools have been enjoying a six week block of coaching to develop their skills in Non Contact Rugby. Our phenomenal coach was Brendan from Inverclyde. Each Tuesday, the schools enjoyed a 45 minute session where we learned the skills and rules required to play a match. To celebrate the end of our fantastic training sessions with Brendan McGroaty, Lindsay Mitchell of Active Schools organised a Rugby Festival at Dunoon Grammar School on Monday 10th June.

Dunoon Primary Sports Day 2013

Dunoon Primary School held its annual Sports Day today (Wednesday 19th June 2013). The weather was very bright and sunny and the children were all very excited! A wide range of sporting activities with something to suit all ages and abilities ranging from the good old favourite, potato and spoon to the more modern rugby challenge. There was a surprise visitor in the shape of the ‘The Morton Mascot’ there to cheer everyone on! A super afternoon was had by all!

SPORTS DAY AT KILCREGGAN PRIMARY

Kilcreggan Primary School held its Sports Day this afternoon. The weather stayed fine and spirits were high. Parents and friends had a great afternoon with parents taking part in a race at the end of the day. The pupils were arranged into teams and progressed around a number of activities with points added up as they went along. The final two races were a relay and an obstacle course.
