ASHFIELD SCHOOL ENJOYS PICNIC

On Tuesday 24th September 2013 at Ashfield Primary we had a picnic called The One Planet Picnic. The One planet Picnic is an event that people all over Scotland have been taking part in to show that we could (and should) survive on food that has been grown/caught/harvested in Scotland. There was lots of delicious food to eat that was either homemade or from Scotland. We also celebrated our second eco-schools Green Flag. Continue reading ASHFIELD SCHOOL ENJOYS PICNIC

Achahoish Host Mid-Argyll Inter-School Sports Day

The sun shone, the sea breeze kept the midges away and we had the perfect day for inter-sports to take place. Ashfield, Glassary and Tayvallich came to our school to take part in a round-robin set of events and three flat races. Parents enjoyed tea and coffee and hot off the girdle pancakes served by our Parent Council. We all had great fun and thank you to Mrs Floyd and all the children, parents and family who came from other schools to our event.

The Beaver Academy

Ashfield Primary have been working alongside Oly Hemmings from the Scottish Beaver Trial to develop the links between the school and the beaver project. As the local school to the trial site, pupils, parents and staff were keen to make the most of this fantastic resource. The pupils have been guinea pigs for a new workshop being developed and have recently visited the trial site to view the beaver dam. The pupils are now the proud adoptive parents of Millie the beaver and will be following her progress as time goes on.

Generation Science at Ashfield

Pupils at Ashfield Primary undertook a science mission yesterday to create a colourful chemical reaction with the help of the Rebecca and Laura from Generation Science and their Fizz, Boom, Bang workshop. The children were introduced to the properties of acids, alkalis and neutrals and witnessed a giant party popper going off in the classroom. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a hands on science experiment.

iCycle at Ashfield

Primary 6 and 7 pupils at Ashfield Primary began their iCycle training on Tuesday led by classroom assistant, Mrs Paterson, and parent helpers, Mr and Mrs Gascoigne. After a thorough safety check of bikes and helmets the children were introduced to the basics of cycling on the road including looking back and signalling. Initial training is being completed in the playground but the children will be putting their new skills into practice on the road in a few weeks. Residents of Achnamara beware!

Comical Cars, Coffee and Cakes at Ashfield Primary

The pupils at Ashfield Primary School held a ‘Comical Cars, Coffee and Cakes’ event to raise money for Red Nose Day. Parents and friends were able to relax with a cuppa and some home baking while the children washed and polished their cars until they sparkled! The pupils ended up very soggy by the end of the afternoon but great fun was had by all and we managed to raise just over £200. Thank you to all who supported us and were brave enough to let the children wash your cars!

Flat Stanley

The Flat Stanley story has been read and used as a stimulus for Big Writing activities for the Infant pupils at Ashfield Primary School this term.  There was great excitement as the P2,3,4 pupils took their Flat Stanleys to the Lochgilphead Sorting Office on Tuesday 23rd October.  The pupils were keen to find out how their Flat Stanley letters had travelled from the post-box in Achnamara village to their homes.  Each Flat Stanley had many adventures at the homes of the children and they kept a diary of the various activities. Fun in Science and Technology

The P4-6 pupils from Ashfield Primary School experienced two visits to the Lochgilphead Joint Campus.
Investigations into ‘Materials in our World’ were taken into a real Science Laboratory in the Campus and the children undertook experiments with the guidance of Dr O’Donnell and Mr Rocket. Chemicals were used to make ‘smelly’ mixtures and the highlight was the competition to make the longest nylon string! Continue reading Fun in Science and Technology
