The children of Salen Primary School and Pre-school held a Wear to Scare day for Halloween to raise funds for Save the Children. The children and staff came to school dressed up for the day and staged a magnificent parade in the hall. The school hall had been spookily decorated by Janny Jan for the village Halloween party organised by our lovely SWRI. It was the perfect venue for a quick parade and collection which amounted to £80.

Fanfare Gala Piping Concert showcases our best!
On Monday 9th November CAST held a wonderful gala concert in Lochgilphead celebrating the rich tradition of piping and drumming in our schools & communities. P6/5 work with Dunoon Community Radio
As part of this term’s enterprise project to set up and run a 60s themed pop-up shop, the children in P6/5 contacted the local radio station to see if they could record a radio advert. Victor and his team were only too willing to help and the class have had two fantastic workshops to learn about the necessary information to be included in the advert and the recording process. Yesterday, the children were very excited to record their advert and Victor and Dave will now take this back to the studio and add the 60s backing tracks before the advert is launched.

Authors Live at Rothesay Primary
This time round, Authors Live was all about the author Liz Pichon, who is a favourite writer at Rothesay Primary. Ever since P4 opened their book shop last year, Liz Pichon’s books about the school boy Tom Gates have been flying off the shelves – so you can imagine our excitement when we found out she would be on Authors Live! With sketch books at the ready, we listened as the author told us how to draw the characters and patterns. Liz Pichon was even wearing clothes that she had drawn on – her dress, her shoes, even her belt – she looked amazing!
The High Points of Strone’s Health Week.
Last Week Strone Primary School held it’s annual Health Week. Amongst the activities on Monday was a “Ready, Steady Soup Challenge” where children had a morning to come up with a recipe, as well as prepare, cook and advertise their soup in time for a full school lunch to which family and friends were invited. A big thank-you to Morrisons and CO-OP in Dunoon, and the Walled Garden at Ardentinny for generous donations of fresh ingredients.

Bowmore Rocks!
Once again our wonderful Kitchen Ladies put on a spectacular themed lunch for us – our hall and kitchen were transformed into an American diner. Cadillacs, jukeboxes as well as records adorned our walls as we sat down to enjoy our meal together.
On the menu, there were burgers, hotdogs, cream sodas as well as some amazing ‘ice-cream’ cones which were made out of cones and butter icing – no melted ice-cream for us!
