On Monday 9th November CAST held a wonderful gala concert in Lochgilphead celebrating the rich tradition of piping and drumming in our schools & communities. Our young people and their chaperones had travelled from Helensburgh, Dunoon, Campbeltown, Oban, and Mid Argyll. A good audience turned out on a blustery and wild evening to be treated to a huge variety of pipe bands, soloists, ensembles and a drummers fanfare. The concert lasted 2 hours and featured almost every young piper and drummer in Argyll and Bute culminating in a Grand Stramash with over 160 pipers and drummers playing simultaneously. The second half started with a piece which described the progression of band members starting with drum pads then young people on chanters moving on to the ‘goose’ and finally being joined by a full band. The focus of the concert was our young people and they were supported by our fabulous music instructors. The event was supported by Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative, The Argyll Piping Trust and Argyll and Bute Council. Please visit the facebook page for full photos and video of the event as well as biogs of our instructors.

“Great to see all the children from across the region coming together, demonstrating it is a key strength of Argyll and Bute’s Education system and should be protected.” Pipe Band member.
“What a brilliant concert. You should all be very proud of what you and the Tutors have achieved.” Argyll Piping Trust.
