Salen Primary Star Jumper

Well done, Keira. You were up against older and more experienced competitors. Keira had previously managed to achieve a 2nd and two 3rds for show jumping at the Salen Show in August. Science Shed Opening and School Fair

image2Excitement was in the air at Lochdonhead Primary on Mull when the official opening took place of the school’s outdoor science laboratory by Michael Russell MSP. The laboratory was created using the £1,000 prize money that the school received as a result of winning last year’s “Our Environment” competition. Luss Primary – Total Green Champions!

Luss Total Green Award 2016 June 2016Luss Primary School are the Scottish Champions of this year’s Total Green Award. Over the past five years Luss has won the Totally Clued-up Category three times and on a fourth occasion was awarded a Special Award created for them because their work was of such a high standard.

JUNIOR SALTIRE WINNERS!

Port Ellen Junior Saltire WinnersLast week Joe, Bronagh, Kaya and Murray traveled with Mrs Clark and Mrs Leask to Glasgow and Edinburgh to take part in the Celebration of Science and Engineering run by @scdiYESC at the Glasgow Science Centre. They were finalists in the Junior Saltire Awards with their Wave Islay design, made with help from Bronagh’s dad Gus, an excellent boat builder. They tested their devices at the Flowave facility in Edinburgh along with 6 other primary schools and 5 secondary schools, before attending the event and presenting to the judges.

Keeping healthy at Kirn Primary School

Kirn PS Keeping Healthy 1One of the last whole school events held in the ‘old’ building of Kirn PS was our annual Health Week. Fun and informative health promoting events were organised for the whole week involving all ten classes and our Early Learning Childcare Centre. We were so lucky that lots of the health professionals in our community offered their time and expertise to lead sessions.

Primary 2/3 iPad puppet shows

Kilcreggan p2-3 puppets b I June 2016P2/3 had a fabulous afternoon videoing their puppet shows this week and then watching all of the masterpieces. The show was the culmination of weeks of work; creating a character and a storyboard. Making the puppet and scenery then writing the play. They rehearsed their plays using the ‘Puppet Pals’ app on the school’s new iPad after which they were ready to use their puppets and be videoed. Well done P2/3 for all your hard work. Where’s Wally?

IMG_8811Dunoon Primary School Primary 5/4 invited their family and friends into their classroom last Wednesday to allow them to see all of the hard work they had put in to their ‘Where’s Wally?’ topic. There were many Wally Watchers to be seen around the class, with a variety of disguises on show. The class had studied different continents and selected a country from within each continent to look at in more depth. From their findings, they produced a travel brochure which highlighted what they felt were the features that would encourage someone to visit the country of their choice. David took us on field trips to every corner of the island and we learned lots of interesting facts about Islay’s geology and how the rocks which make up this amazing island were formed;

DGS Autism Awareness

DGSAutismAwarenessApril 1st 2016 was Autism Awareness Day in Dunoon Grammar School. The Learning Centre pupils prepared a Power Point presentation to show at house time and made a whole army of gingerbread cookies to sell on the day. The whole school was invited to design jigsaw pieces which were joined together for display in the Forum, showing that DGS supports Autism awareness. The event was a great success so well done to everyone involved. A total of £120 was raised for our local autism support organisation: Autism Argyll.

Technologies Showcase at Innellan Primary

Innellan Tech Showcase 2Pupils from Toward, Innellan, St Muns and Dunoon, supported by Gary Clark and Steven Simpson have been learning how to write computer code. Dunoon has been using Lego WeDo and the other schools have been using Kudo. The progress and improvements in the pupils independent working and problem solving has been fantastic and the pupils over a period of a few weeks have managed to develop a wide range of simple to complex games.

The Christmas show Presented By Southend Primary

Southend Picture 1On Thursday the 10th of December Southend Primary and ELCC unit put on a play called ‘What a Star’ and ‘Christmas Is Forever’. ‘What A Star’ featured a small star called Leo who was bullied and laughed at because of his size, but God sent an angel who told Leo to be the star that shone above the stable where Jesus was lying in a manger full of hay. This resulted in Leo becoming the most special star of all time.
