On Thursday the 10th of December Southend Primary and ELCC unit put on a play called ‘What a Star’ and ‘Christmas Is Forever’. ‘What A Star’ featured a small star called Leo who was bullied and laughed at because of his size, but God sent an angel who told Leo to be the star that shone above the stable where Jesus was lying in a manger full of hay. This resulted in Leo becoming the most special star of all time.
The crowd of parents and the local community were also entertained by Caitlin Russel P7 doing a solo song on her flute and Craig Barbour and Alba McGowan both P6 on the chanter.
Then primary 1-7 did a James Bond themed play called ’Christmas is Forever’, featuring Jane Blonde (Ruairi Barbour), Code name OOPs, I assume you may guess what type of agent she was. This play was about a man called Scarymonger who never received a present from Santa and who became a super villain. He kidnapped Santa and intended to destroy Christmas. This is when the character Jane Blonde is called to MI6. Y tells her to go and rescue Santa and in the end Christmas is saved by giving Scarymonger a present.
We learned many skills by having to memorise the script. We had to show expressions and act confidently using our actions and body language. We learned to understand the words we were using and we had to act like we were that character in front of an audience. We learned to confidently sing solo parts and to sing in canon, improving our confidence as individuals as well as working as part of a team.
