Science Shed Opening and School Fair

image2Excitement was in the air at Lochdonhead Primary on Mull when the official opening took place of the school’s outdoor science laboratory by Michael Russell MSP. The laboratory was created using the £1,000 prize money that the school received as a result of winning last year’s “Our Environment” competition. Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Rory Colville said: “This is a wonderful initiative and the pupils of Lochdonhead Primary School are very worthy winners.

It’s great to see that the pupils are aware of the importance of the environment around them and are keen to conserve it. The opening of the new science laboratory will not only encourage a hands-on learning environment but it will also enable pupils to share their ideas and become active citizens in their local community.”

Stewart Prodger from SEPA said: “We’re delighted with what Lochdonhead Primary has done with the Our Environment prize money. This competition was all about stimulating interest in the local environment, analysing issues and working together to find solutions.

“The pupils of Lochdonhead Primary were worthy winners, showing a great vision of how to improve, conserve, understand and share their environment with others – a real inspiration. To help kickstart the new science shed, SEPA was happy to provide some lab equipment and look forward to some of our scientists visiting soon, so pupils can show us how it’s done!”

We are now looking forward to welcoming pupils from other schools to our Science lab and conservation garden to share in our outdoor learning. Thanks must also go to our friends in the community who come along to these events and support our school.
