Strachur Primary and pre-5 have raised £173.42 for Children in Need this year. On Friday 18th November pupils and staff came to school dressed ‘back to front’ and Primary 5 and 6 ran a ‘Bring and Buy’ sale.

Rockfield Rocks Fasanta!

rockfield-fasanta-1A number of pupils in P4,5,6 and 7 took part in Castle to Catwalk, a costume design competition for schools in and around Oban, run by Dunollie Projects Ltd, as part of their Fasanta Festival of Fashion and Textiles.
The winning three designs were made into real wearable costumes by Dunollie’s volunteer Threads and Yarn group and were paraded on stage at their Annual Fasanta Community Catwalk in the Corran Halls on Saturday 22nd October 2016.

P6 Harvest Tea

cardross-p6-harvest-tea-3Last term Primary 6 in Cardross were thinking a lot about how they could help the local community and town during Harvest time. Everyday they collected tins and packets of food from the whole school for the Food Bank in Helensburgh, they were overwhelmed by everyone’s kind generosity.Primary 6 were also the hosts for the Senior Citizen Harvest tea and this year we decided to create ‘ Super Soup’ parcels for them to take home and enjoy.

Strachur Primary raises £348.10 for MacMillan

strachur-ps-macmillan-fundraiser-sept-2016-1On Friday 30th September Strachur Primary held a MacMillan coffee morning. Primary 1-4 baked fruit loaf that week and Primary 5-7, fairy cakes. These were sold alongside many donations of cakes and home baking from staff and the wider school community. Primary 5-7 served all morning and were delighted with the final total of £348.10 for this very worthwhile cause.

JLB Harvest the Seeds of Success

jlb-harvest-the-seeds-of-successChildren at John Logie Baird Primary School have been working with Waitrose to develop Enterprise and business skills across the school. Following the pupils planning, measuring building and filling their own raised beds, Waitrose donated seeds to the school. Each class divided them up and planted them. Over the summer term, each class tended to their crop, and to their astonishment, after returning in August, a huge crop was ripe and ready to harvest.

Castlehill Primary School – Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraiser

castlehill-ps-macmillan-fundraiser-2Primary 2/3 and 3/4 held a Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraiser on Friday 23rd September.

P2/3 set their classroom up as a Baker’s Shop and sold delicious home baking while P3/4’s classroom was the cafe where the whole school were served juice and biscuits.

JUNIOR SALTIRE WINNERS!

Port Ellen Junior Saltire WinnersLast week Joe, Bronagh, Kaya and Murray traveled with Mrs Clark and Mrs Leask to Glasgow and Edinburgh to take part in the Celebration of Science and Engineering run by @scdiYESC at the Glasgow Science Centre. They were finalists in the Junior Saltire Awards with their Wave Islay design, made with help from Bronagh’s dad Gus, an excellent boat builder. They tested their devices at the Flowave facility in Edinburgh along with 6 other primary schools and 5 secondary schools, before attending the event and presenting to the judges.

Rothesay Primary School Eco Day

RPS Eco Day May 2016Rothesay Primary School held their first ever Eco day on Monday 9th May. It was a huge success. The Eco committee worked with teachers to organise lots of different activities and all 255 pupils took part. Some of the favourite things were making (and eating) fruit kebabs, making bird feeders, parachute games, Eco art, making Earth mobiles, and singing Eco songs. Busy Time at Southend Primary School!

Southend Busy Time 1251 2Pupils at Southend Primary School have been very busy learning about the processes involved from farm and sea to fork.
We have been looking at different food groups, ‘The Eatwell Plate’ and the importance of a balanced diet. Members of the local community have visited to enrich our learning in this area. Jen Campbell discussed fishing; how the fish is caught, different species of fish found in our local area and some information about the work carried out by her husband and son, who are fishermen. We saw live crabs which they had caught and tasted crab pate.
