In February 2016 Bill Clifford, a guest speaker from Mary’s Meals, came and spoke to the Primary 7class about the ways in which the Mary’s Meals charity helps children. After the visit the Primary 7 pupils asked if they could take part in the Mary’s Meals Backpack Project.
The project supports children who do not have the basic things like pens and notepads and enables them to attend school and gain an education that can help them escape from poverty when they grow up.
The class sent letters out to the whole school asking pupils and parents to help in donating the following items:-
Notepad Pens, pencils, crayons Eraser, ruler, sharpener, pencil case Towel Shorts or skirt, t-shirt or dress Flip-flops or sandals Soap, toothbrush, toothpaste Small ball Spoon backpack. The response was AMAZING!!
The class then sorted the items into backpacks. They made 57 backpacks in total!
Bill Clifford returned to the school to collect the backpacks and told us more about the children they will help. For many children, a Mary’s Meals backpack will be they only gift they’ll have ever had.
It was a wonderful experience for everyone!!
A great achievement. Well done everyone.
