Tuesday 7th January saw the official launch of their new whole school IDL on Scotland. Planning for the project involved staff, pupils, parents and carers and the parish of Our Lady and St. Mun’s who were all asked to put their heads together to help plan and share skills, which would ensure the children would get the most out of their learning. Oban Burns Committee
P7 Pupil council members from 3 schools in the Oban area have formed committee and are now in the process of organising a day of Burns for children in the local area.
Children from Barcaldine, Rockfield and Kilninver have followed the same basic format as last year. They have been involved in the practical tasks that setting up an event for 200 children involves including booking a theatre group, hiring the venue, ordering medals, designing certificates and making rosettes for the event.
Scrooge – Achahoish style!
We managed to write our own script based ‘loosely’ around ‘A Christmas Story’ by Charles Dickens. It was tricky to take what we watched in our DVD study of the film to create our own up-to-date version of it. We based our setting in the local estate of Ormsary where we performed our Pantomime to the community. Scrooge was a local ‘Dell Boy’ working on the Estate. He had had a string of unfortunate Christmas Eves and hated them.
Our St Kilda Museum at Achahoish Primary
We transformed one of our classrooms into a Black house and opened a museum up for 3 days to our local community all about St Kilda. We found out just how hard life was for the St Kildans and how extreme the conditions were to survive on the Island which was evacuated in 1930. We had to take what we learned and present it in a way that would make our visitors to feel like they were actually on the Island and for it to be interactive.

The Scottish Ferns Netball team were playing the reigning commonwealth champions The New Zealand Ferns in an exciting and quick paced match at the Emirates Stadium!
Although the Ferns won 63 – 26, the pupils from Colgrain were always in good spirits, always encouraging the Thistles to do well with chants of ‘Come on Scotland’ and Mexican waves.

“Souper” Clan Challenge at Strath of Appin Primary School
Happy New Year
All three clans in the school certainly rose to the challenge of creating their own pots of soup for the Soup Clan Challenge. There was a hive of activity as Clan Linnhe prepared Winter minestrone soup, Clan Creran prepared tomato and carrot soup and Clan Laich, creamy carrot and coriander. The children really got a lot out of this challenge and it was pleasing to see them use the practical skills that Alex Needham from the Waterfront Restaurant had demonstrated a few weeks earlier.

DALINTOBER OXFAM SALE
Dalintober held its annual Oxfam Sale recently. Instead of ordering from the Oxfam catalogue we asked for the money to go directly to the people of the Philippenes. The whole school took part by bringing in their toys, games and books. Primary 5 organised the sale and some acted as stall keepers while others helped the customers by being personal shoppers.
School students “Experience Christmas” at Dunoon Grammar School.
Just before the end of last term the first year pupils at DGS had the opportunity to encounter the Christmas story from the bible through a series of interactive stations. The stations were presented by volunteers from local Dunoon churches, and covered stories such as the shepherds near Bethlehem being greeted by an angel, the journey of Mary and Joseph for a Roman census and the wisdom and gifts of the wise men.

Young Learning Centre Designers Take a Trip to The Printers
Five pupils from Dunoon Grammar’s learning centre designed an eye-catching range of Christmas cards as part of their contribution to the Learning Support Department’s annual Christmas Fayre. The designs were so colourful and original that learning centre teacher Liz Miller approached local printer, E&R Inglis, to see if they would print the cards to give them the professional finish they deserved.

St. Mun’s Choir Entertain Residents At Ardenlee
It’s always good to give back to the community and when the children of St. Mun’s Choir were asked to entertain the residents at Ardenlee Care Home in Dunoon, they jumped at the chance to do just that.
Resplendent in their uniform and festive Santa hats the children sang a selection of their favourite carols for residents, staff and visitors who clapped along and joined in with their own personal favourites.

‘Icons’ and ‘Idols’ at Dalintober PS
Parents and family members flocked in their hundreds for three sell-out performances of this year’s school show at Dalintober PS. As well as traditional Christmas items, from our instrumentalists and choir, the crowds were entertained by each class paying tribute to some icons and idols – a wide range from Elvis Presley to Katy Perry! The PTA held very successful raffles and between these and the show a massive £2400 was raised for school funds. Thank you to all – and a Happy Christmas and New Year from all at Dalintober PS!
Dalintober Primary Entertain the Elderly
Primary 7 pupils from Dalintober Primary spent two days on a Christmas Roadshow. Their objective was to entertain elderly men and women from the local hospital, care homes and sheltered accommodation.
They were appreciated by their audiences who thoroughly enjoyed their performances. Following each performance the pupils talked to all in attendance and wished them a Merry Christmas.
Well done Primary 7!
HIGHER FRENCH TRIP TO GENEVA
After having sat their exam in May, the Higher French class of 2012-13 benefited from the ability to keep up their speaking and language skills, through travelling to Geneva in Switzerland the following term. Although none of the pupils carried the subject on to Advanced Higher level, they were all keen to not lose the attribute of knowing a foreign language.
Barcaldine Nativity
A huge thank you to everyne who supported the pupils in Barcaldine during their Nativity performance of ‘A Christmas Code’ in St. Modan’s Church last week. Parents, Grandparents and friends really enjoyed watching the children’s peformance and we raised £50 for Breast Cancer UK.
Dunoon Grammar School – Learning Support Festive Fun Raises Funds for Children and Communities all Over the World
Every year in Dunoon Grammar School, The Learning Support Department hosts a Christmas Fayre to raise money for their chosen charity, ‘World Vision.’ ‘World Vision’ is a charity that helps children and their community to achieve success in far less privileged parts of the world than ours. This year’s event was similar to previous years but unlike previous years, when teachers have organised everything, this year S6 pupil Rebecca Westwood played the coordinating role.
