iCycle training at St Joseph’s Primary

Parents are leading the way at St. Joseph’s in iCycle training. A group of parents: Mrs O’Hara, Mrs Russell, Mrs Moy and Mrs Greig have been involved in ably instructing the P6 children in the practical aspects of the programme whilst staff have looked on and learned. The teaching staff have approached the theory of iCycle training in class sessions with a fine balance of practical skills being taught mainly by previously trained parents.

Lismore Primary School: Healthy Body Week 13th to 17th May

The week started with a food themed day. The children found out about the different food groups that are necessary for a balanced diet. With the help of Hazel, each child made a healthy smoothie for their snack from a wide variety of different fruits including pineapple, mango raspberries and strawberries. Hazel also introduced a new salad bar at lunchtime where the children could try out different salad vegetables.

Rothesay Primary Sleepover raises £1,917.50!

Pupils from Primary 4-7 of Rothesay Primary School took part in a 12 hour sponsored lock in at their school! Activities on offer were: a nail salon, cupcake decorating, a hair salon, football on the astro, SingStar in the GP Room, pancake making in the Home Ec department, trampolining, table tennis, computer suite and arts & crafts. We watched a film on the big screen in the assembly hall together before heading to bed – in the classrooms!

Innellan Primary Health Week

Week beginning 13th May saw the start of Innellan Primary School’s Health Week. This was to be a week of very exciting opportunities and a chance to learn about health matters.
On Monday 13th May the pupils all went to The Velvet Path Trekking Centre. The children all got the chance to ride a pony and had a tour of the Centre.
Tuesday 14th May saw the pupils learning about Golf!

Christian Aid Football Tournament

On Monday 13th May the annual Christian Aid football tournament took place at Hermitage Academy. Schools from Helensburgh and the local area took place in, what was to be, a very wet football tournament. The Hermitage football team were competing for the first time since the National Finals in which they managed to come 3rd in the whole of Scotland. Their first game was against Cardross which Hermitage won 3-1. They followed this with another two impressive results against Lomond and JLB winning 5-0 and 7-0.

LOCHGILPHEAD HIGH SCHOOL – BADMINTON SCOTLAND SCHOOL OF THE MONTH

On Thursday the 2nd May, John Shearer of Badminton Scotland came to the Joint Campus to present the High School with the ‘School of the Month’ award for April 2013. Jillian Gibson, Active Schools Co-ordinator, nominated the High School largely due to the success of the after school club which ‘is the most popular club currently running at the school, with over 30 pupils attending each week.’

Hermitage Primary football team.

The Hermitage Primary School football team travelled to the Toryglen Regional Football Centre to participate in the Scottish Schools National Finals. The finals were played in two sections and Hermitage boys won two matches and lost one. As runners-up in their section they then played in a play off for third place which they achieved with a 3-1 scoreline. Well done boys, 3rd in Scotland is a wonderful result! There was also the consolation that the only team to beat them were the winners of the tournament!

Toyota Cross Country Relay Championships at the Duchess Woods

Kilcreggan Primary School P6 and P7 pupils took part in the Toyota Cross Country Relay Championships at the Duchess Woods, Helensburgh today. Our teams competed against a large field and all crossed the finish line in grand style. Congratulations to them all and a big Thank You to Denise Walker, Margery Taylor and Toyota Helensburgh for organising the event.

Bunessan’s Grand March

Thanks to a beautiful Spring day Bunessan’s Grand March took place on Friday 19th April. The P5/6/7 class organised this sponsored walk to raise money for school funds and led all who were walking in a very energetic Zumba warm up before we set off. Two walks took place. A 2.2 mile walk for younger children and a 4.6 mile walk for older children. Everyone completeed the walks in record time and should be very proud of this achievement.

Cardross Primary Health week

Cardross Primary finished the Easter term with their annual health week. Some of the highlights were ‘Healthy Hearts’ with Andy McKechnie, ‘Funky Fitness’ with Julie Smith and the Chest, Heart and Stroke – Cardio Hoop Fundraiser. Thank you to Mrs Sharp for all of her efforts in planning and organising such a wonderful week for pupils and staff.

Dunoon Volleyball Tournament

The Annual Interschool Volleyball Tournament took place today at Dunoon Grammar School. Dunoon had 6 teams. Each one played very well with 2 teams getting to the semi final and the final. Lauren, Luke and Jack went through to the final against a strong Kirn Team C who won the match. A great day was had by all the Primary 7’s and there were lots of happy smiling faces to be seen around the hall.

Dervaig Red Nose Day Sponsored Walk

On Saturday 16 March Dervaig children organised their third sponsored walk for Red Nose Day. They walked from Tobermory to Dervaig raising £230, from passing vehicles, in their buckets. They still have to add sponsor money to this fabulous amount! The children appreciated the help from parents and grandparents and would like to say an enormous Thank You to the Bellachroy Hotel for providing soup and sandwiches at the end of this long walk.

INTER-SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY

Our primary 6/7 class took part in the Inter-Schools Cross Country Competition held at the old Hermitage Academy last Friday. Despite very cold and damp conditions they all enjoyed themselves and participated enthusiastically. A big thank-you to Martin Caldwell and his team for organising the event and to all those parents and staff who attended last Friday.

Dalintober PS Pupils Play Park Design Ideas

Pupils from Dalintober PS were delighted to be asked to give their ideas on what should be included in Campbeltown’s new play park at Kilkerran. Mrs Alison McGrory, from Kilkerran Play Park’s Committee came to talk to Pupil Council members, who then asked their class mates to give their ideas and suggestions from a catalogue provided by Mrs McGrory. The Pupil Council presented their ideas to Mrs McGrory and is eagerly awaiting the finished design!

Lochgilphead High School Badminton Players

The end of January saw a really busy time for Lochgilphead High School Badminton players. For the first time since coming to the new campus, LHS hosted the MAKI (Mid Argyll Kintrye and Islay) Badminton tournament. Four pupils (two boys and two girls) from each year group took part in the competition which lasted for the whole day! Everyone played well and the event was very sporting and although we did not win all the events, we did dominate and win the S3, S5 and S6 tournaments.

GO ROSNEATH!!!

We are very, very proud of our Cross Country runners. At the annual Cross Country Run for P6 and P7 pupils in Helensburgh this morning our little peninsula school sent 14 runners and gained 2 x 3rd places, 1 x 4th place, 1 x 5th place, 1 x 12th place and 1 x 13th place. What an achievement!! ALL our runners crossed that Finish Line to earn a well-deserved medal.

****SPORT YOUR TRAINERS FOR GLASGOW 2014****

Today at Kilmodan we are sporting our trainers on Commonwealth Day, as part of ‘Sport Your Trainers for Glasgow 2014’. This is part of a national campaign which asks people to wear their trainers as a symbolic gesture of support for Glasgow 2014. During our Commonwealth themed assembly we talked about the Commonwealth Games. There will be 71 nations and territories taking part in the games in July next year.

Sport Your Trainers Day at Dalintober PS

Sport Your Trainers 2013
Pupils and staff of Dalintober PS came to school ready for action in their trainers to support the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 campaign ‘Sport Your Trainers’. All classes participated in physical outdoor activities as part of their daily PE sessions.

Lochgilphead High School: S2 Outward Bound Trip

Outward Bound 2013

Eighteen S2 pupils along with two S4 mentor pupils attended The Outward Bound Trust Loch Eil Centre which is just outside Fort William from Monday 25 February until Friday 1 March 2013. Their first task was to jog from the centre to the nearby Loch Eil and then take a dip in the dark cold water.
