Barcaldine Primary School recently went along to Tesco in Oban to take part in their Farm to Food workshop.
The school children were met by Nicola Robertson who was wearing a lovely, bright yellow apron – certainly a beacon to follow because Tesco is huge!
Barcaldine Primary School hosted a Visions, Values and Aims Day whilst tying it in with Fairtrade.
We invited parents and guardians of the children as well as members of the local community so that they could come together and discuss the visions, values and aims of Barcaldine Primary School. The children partnered up with adults and voiced their opinions alongside their parents. ‘Scent-Citizens’, run by P4/5 in Port Ellen Primary, is to receive an award from the Social Enterprise Academy. The children in P4/5 have been working diligently over the last few months to set up and manage their own social enterprise business producing soaps and bath bombs. They have been involved in writing their own business plan, creating a company name and logo, designing order forms, invoices and customer feedback froms, making orders for resources, producing soaps and bathbombs, packaging, sales, book keeping and delivery. Some of Dunoon Grammar School’s senior learning centre pupils were delighted to invite local entrepreneurs in to school to talk about their experiences as business people. The pupils are undertaking an ASDAN short course in Enterprise. ASDAN offer a range of certificates and qualifications that allow pupils to work at their own pace and own level, making them ideal for many learning centre pupils. The Enterprise short course, which will take 60 hours to complete, provides opportunities for pupils to develop entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, and how to use these effectively. As part of their interdisiplinary project on World War 2 on Thursday 27th February 2014, P7/6 pupils at Dunoon Primary were delighted to welcome Mrs Aileen Danby, mother of Lili, p.6. who gave an excellent presentation about her exciting career as an officer and a midwife/nurse during the Gulf War and Afghanistan conflicts. She enthralled us all about her various brave rescue missions which also involved her being lowered down into the Jungle of Brunei to rescue wounded soldiers. Primary 7 had an exciting week working on their Dragons’ Den interdisciplinary project. Local business representatives from the community were our ‘Dragons’ on the Friday and grilled each pupil on their idea. Each entrepreneur had two minutes 30 seconds to pitch and take questions. Dunoon Primary School PTA held a magnificent Christmas Fayre on Thursday 28th November 2013. The hall was packed with parents, pupils and shoppers as the crowd awaited the choir coming on to do a selection of Christmas songs. Santa was busy in his grotto and the teachers and staff were busy in the tearoom serving up a selection of home baked goodies.
On Thursday the 28th of November we had our Holly Tea. We sold lots of crafts like slate dominoes from slate collected on Luing. We also sold bunting, button garlands, glass tea lights, Christmas cards and much more. All the things were hand made by the pupils (with help from staff.) Parents and members of the community donated cakes for the baking stall which raised a lot of money. We had games like nail in the bale and guess how many sweets are in the jar. Mrs MacDonald and P6/5 of Dunoon Primary School organised activities to raise money for Children In Need. The children sold raffle tickets to win a’ Pudsey in his Onesie’ from Build a Bear, they made and sold bookmarks and organised an art competition. Entrants had to design a ‘Onesie’, for Pudsey. On Friday the 15th November everyone in school was asked to wear a ‘Onesie’, something spotty or something yellow and to give a donation of 50p to Children In Need.
Park Primary School celebrated their second Apple Day since the creation of the school orchard which was funded by Grounds for Learning and Heritage Lottery Fund.
Both pupils and staff showed great imagination dressing up for the theme of the day ‘British Grown Fruit and Vegetables’. And what a variety it was: blueberries, broccoli, apples, tomatoes, strawberries, potatoes, carrots and even a runner bean (school janitor) that did laps around the hall and put smiles on everyone’s faces. On Monday the 7th of October, we held our second Community Café at our school. It was a huge success and many members of our community came to visit us. We sold lots of our handmade crafts including books, bookmarks, calendars and Christmas cards. The parents generously provided an abundance of cakes and biscuits to accompany the tea and coffee and it was lovely to catch up with the people who have supported us on our journey to becoming a successful business. Hopefully it will be just as busy next time when we will be holding our first community bingo game!

On Friday 27th September 2013 P7 and P7/6 pupils from Lochgilphead Primary School worked together to make a successful World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Baking Brilliance
The pupils got into groups and followed a recipe using their reading and measuring skills to make scrumptious cakes that hopefully the adults would enjoy. Thanks to the help and generosity from parents, children and teachers, our Harvest Sale on Friday 13th September raised £86. We will put this money to good use, buying new resources for outdoor education to continue with our good work in the garden and the woods.
Pupils from Dalintober PS have been working closely on enterprising projects with local organisation Explore Campbeltown. The organisation is a website which promotes local businesses and their products. Pupils have made posters which will go on display around the town and on the new ferry which links Campbeltown to Arran and Ardrossan. The next enterprise activity for Dalintober PS pupils is to decorate ‘Penny Jars’ to be placed in local shops to raise funds for Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group and CGS4Gambia. The school is delighted to be linked to this very worthwhile venture.

To celebrate the centenary of the Picture House in Campbeltown, Home Economics pupils in S1 and S2, studied the history of the Picture House in Campbeltown, using the internet and “The Wee Pictures” website.
Pupils found it fascinating to see the huge changes which have been made over the years, taking into account the changes in society and the impact of technology.
Following their investigations, everyone got their “designer hats” on to come up with ideas for a celebration cake for the event.

Inspired by the SECC Learning Festival, Bowmore Primary decided to hold their very own Learning Festival on May 3rd for parents to attend. This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to share many aspects of their learning with friends and family.

ON the 4th May a group of senior students and one of their teachers from Lochgilphead High School, bravely shaved their heads for charity.
The event which took place in front of the public at the Argyll Inn on Sunday was in aid of the local cancer charity, Rainbow Valley. The group of fundraisers included fifth year student Lee MacLean, fourth years Coll MacCallum and Patrick Feeney, as well as English teacher Ronnie Cameron. Over the last year, Lochgilphead High School’s Young Enterprise team has created T-shirts designed by themselves, and have excelled in selling the product to fellow school pupils and peers. The team was automatically entered in the area finals which took place on the 23 of April at Inveraray, directly competing against other schools.
