Park Primary School celebrated their second Apple Day since the creation of the school orchard which was funded by Grounds for Learning and Heritage Lottery Fund.
Both pupils and staff showed great imagination dressing up for the theme of the day ‘British Grown Fruit and Vegetables’. And what a variety it was: blueberries, broccoli, apples, tomatoes, strawberries, potatoes, carrots and even a runner bean (school janitor) that did laps around the hall and put smiles on everyone’s faces.
Many competitions were held on the day. The Bake Off competition was everybody’s favourite as it culminated into a selling stall with quickly forming queues. It was judged by Linda Croscher, the school dinner lady, and Robbie Morrison, a professional chef, with a little bit of tasting help from some eco group members. The recipes had to include British grown fruit or vegetables and Fairtrade ingredients.
Other competitions included The Largest Apple, The Smallest Apple, The Largest Potato, The Longest Carrot and The Most Unusually Shaped Fruit or Vegetable. The competitions attracted many amazing entries. The longest carrot that could barely fit on the table!
