DGS Pupils Capture the Biggest Highland Games in the world?

DGS PUPILS CAPTURE COWAL HIGHLAND GATHERING
School TV crew film at games for future broadcast

A team from Dunoon Grammar School’s DGSTV initiative are working hard in school during lunchtimes to edit and produce a range of videos from footage recorded at last month’s marvellous Cowal Highland Gathering.

In advance of the Gathering, the team met with Ronnie Cairns, Chair of the Games and Malcolm Barclay, Event Manager, to discuss filming requirements and to put together a recording plan for the day.
With Games Saturday packing in such a fantastic range of activities and events, the DGSTV team had their work cut out – but due to good planning, a 7.30 am start and on-going advice throughout the day from the onsite Games PR team – the DGS crew managed to cover all the significant happenings on the day.
The team are now using lunchtimes to edit down the footage and to produce a series of stand alone videos on the key highlights of the games, as well as video montages which will be used to give a flavour of the games on the lead up to the 2014 edition of the World’s biggest and best Highland Gathering.

It is hoped that the specially produced videos will be broadcast by the Cowal Highland Gathering though their social media resources, as well as being a useful tool to give potential participants and sponsors an insight into all the games has to offer. As well as the DGSTV team, a group of DGS pupils hosted the ‘Looking forward to CHG 2014’ stand, providing information to spectators and participants on the amazing enhancements to the Gathering planned for next year.

DGSTV camera operator Henry Togwell commented:
“It was a fantastic day and a privilege to get so close to the action on Games Saturday. Our team put in a 14 hour shift to make sure we have plenty of footage we can now work with. The editing is very time consuming, but we are learning plenty of new skills in the use of video production software.”
David Mitchell, Head Teacher of Dunoon Grammar School added:
“I would like to thank the Cowal Highland Gathering for providing this rich learning opportunity for our young people. I am confident that the final videos produced by our pupils will be of a high standard and I looking forward to viewing their completed work.”
