Primary 3 in Park Primary School have been learning all about the Ancient Greeks this term! They found out where and when they lived, what their lives were like and how they have influenced our lives today. As a final outcome the children planned and hosted an Ancient Greek Day on Tuesday 25th March to share their learning with their families. Park Church Easter Visit 2014
On the 19th March 2014, Colgrain’s Primary 7 pupils spent the day at Park Church learning all about the Easter Story. When we arrived Andy Lang had made an Easter quiz for us to participate in. There were five different workshops held by several volunteers. The workshops included designing our own crucifixion cross to decorate the school hall with, getting our feet washed to represent Jesus cleaning his disciples’ feet, watching an Easter video which taught us about the sentence Jesus was given and lastly about the last supper.

Barcaldine go back in time!
Barcaldine Primary School’s interdisciplinary topic for this term is The Victorians.
After all our research into the Victorian era it seemed a good idea to go long to visit the Victorian School in Scotland Street, Glasgow. The children got a chance to walk around the museum and see where the children went to class, where they played and even noticed the outside loo – thank goodness we had modern ones inside the museum! Small Isles Primary nominated for Community Archives Award
In Spring 2012, Small Isles children became involved in the Crofting Connections Project. During the summer term they invited the community to be involved too by hosting four Crofting Community Cafes in school. Each cafe had a crofting theme (Crofting the land, Life as a child, Crofting Culture and Crofting at Home) and a panel of ‘experts’ from the community were invited to come and share their memories and experiences of the theme by answering questions from the children, leading discussions and having drinks and home-cooked treats.

Lochgilphead Primary 1 pupils invade S4 classroom.
Pupils of Lochgilphead High School Princes Trust 4xl group held a ‘show and tell ‘day for 40 pupils of primary 1 as part of their WW 1 project. The group spent months researching into their specific topic and as much time perfecting their timings and the best activity to entertain the children. Ashley spoke all about the airplanes of WW1 and had three Lego models on show and lots of colouring sheets for the children to show off their artistic talents. Sandbank’s Great Exhibition
Gaelic unit P6/7 from Sandbank Primary (Bunsgoil Thaigh a’Chladaich) were learning about the history of the Holy Loch area over the past two hundred years. The work was organised by Fiona Lochhead from Kilmun Mausoleum who arranged for a weaver called Fiona MacDougall and a heritage worker called Robin Patel to come in and work with us.

Victorian CCTV Camera – or Camera Obscura: You Decide.
Pupils from Lochgilphead High School Princes Trust 3xl group spent 3 days in Edinburgh as part of their photography project. They stayed at the wonderfully equipped Forth Lodge based in Bonaly outdoor centre. The group visited the Camera Obscura to learn about different aspects of imagery, textures and optical illusions. There were 5 floors full of new and exciting interactive fun. KILMARTIN MUSEUM AND DALINTOBER PRIMARY
Primary five at Dalintober Primary School worked with Kilmartin Museum on a very exciting bird project. First the children, accompanied by Julia Hamilton and Kate Moody form Kilmartin Museum, examined stuffed birds and then they walked round the harbour in Campbeltown to see the real thing. They also visited Campbeltown Museum to see where an exhibition of their work would be. Vikingar Fun for P5
What a magnificent fun day out Dunoon Primary P5 class had at Vikingar on Friday 7th March. The pupils were treated to a visit to a real life Viking Home and as they entered ‘strange aromas’ were evident of the Viking age. The informative guide quickly began to introduce us to a world of information on our topic, with lots of clever pupils answering questions testing their knowledge of the Vikings.
Vikings Topic P5 Dunoon Primary
This term P5 are learning about The Vikings. All the pupils are thoroughly enjoying the topic and have produced some fantastic work. They have designed and made Viking shields from wood, drawn longships and have used ICT skills to produce Viking factsheets. Pupils have also made their own Vikingbook page with their own wall post and profile picture ( dressed as their Viking character). We are all looking forward to continuing this topic and a trip to Vikingar to learn more.
Park Pupils Impress at Burns Event!
A few weeks ago, Primary 7s at Park School entered the Burns competition at the Corran Halls. After weeks of preparation, the pupils took part in different categories and clearly impressed the judges as they returned to Park with 10 medals in total! These were as follows: silver and bronze in Recitation; silver in Solo Singing; gold and silver in Instrumental; gold and bronze in Art; and gold, silver and bronze in Writing in Scots.
Congratulations to our Primary 7s – we are very proud of their achievements!
Dunoon Grammar School – Modern Studies Trip to Westminster
At 11.45pm on the 16th of December, Dunoon Grammar School’s Modern Studies Trip commenced. Those involved (Mrs Hunter, Mr Clark, Mr McNeilage, and 26 pupils from DGS) embarked that evening upon an exciting adventure. During the trip the group would get to visit the Houses of Parliament and experience London during Christmas time, but first they had to endure on an 8 hour bus ride to get there.

MINI COMMONWEALTH GAMES AT DALINTOBER PRIMARY SCHOOL
Everyone in Dalintober Primary’s P7 class had a super time during their Mini Commonwealth Games which were held in school last week. The Games marked the end of an Interdisciplinary Task all about The Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Games.
A variety of activities had been enjoyed by the class leading up to The Dalintober Games, including compiling factfiles about some Commonwealth countries, making clay tiles to advertise the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and using a Diamond Nine to make group decisions about which events were most important. Scottish Evening at Kilcreggan
Pupils at Kilcreggan Primary School hosted a fabulous Scottish Evening on Tuesday 4th February.
A former pupil piped in the haggis and P7/6 pupils gave the traditional “Address To The Haggis2.
Kilmartin celebrate Chinese New Year
This week, at Kilmartin P.S, we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We watched some films showing how people celebrate this festival and Benjamin in P.2 told us that this is the year of the horse. We all researched our Chinese zodiac sign and discovered that we are mainly sheep, pigs or monkeys! Benjamin brought in his Chinese dragon from home and then gave out fortune cookies. This is a traditional way of giving good luck messages for the new year.
Project Wild Thing!
Stramash Social Enterprise and Oban Phoenix Cinema have joined forces to present a showing of the feature length documentary Project Wild Thing. The award winning film is currently touring the UK. It brings the complex issue of the ways in which our children do (or don’t) interact with the natural world to our attention. The project has gathered significant support throughout the United Kingdom from the RSPB, the National Trust, schools, nurseries and other educational organisations.
Dalintober Primary School; Mary Queen of Scots topic
Dalintober Primary 6 pupils treated their parents and relatives to a Scottish themed concert to celebrate the end of their Mary Queen of Scots interdisciplinary topic. The pupils were fully responsible for the planning and organising of the event. The guests were treated to a variety of musical performances which included solos and duets from brass instrumentalists, drummers, a chanter player and a violinist. The concert ended with the class singing two Scottish favourites, ‘Will Ye Go Lassie Go’ and ‘Caledonia’.

Rockfield’s Drovers Monday 27 January 2014
In Rockfield School two classes, P5/4 mainstream and P7/6/5 Gaelic, have worked together to learn about the life of the ancient Drovers in Argyll.
They have worked in partnership with Joyce Gilbert from the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and Sally Harkness, Storyline Scotland, with both classes following Sally’s world renowned Storyline Approach. It has been a wonderful example of Curriculum for Excellence at its best and a thematic approach to Social Studies.

Ulva Primary School Burns Lunch 23rd January 2014
At Ulva Primary School on Thursday 23rd of January we had a fabulous Burns Lunch. We fed 24 people Cock-a-leekie soup, followed by delicious Isle of Mull Haggis, neeps and tatties. Later we finished off with Granny Carol’s scrumptious cloutie dumpling and custard.
We played Scottish Pass the Parcel and some forfeits were hilarious, like having to do the highland fling.
