Medication Return – August 11th

We would like to inform parents and carers about arrangements for handing in any new or existing pupil medication for the upcoming school session.

Date: Tuesday 11th August
Time: Between 9:00am and 11:00am

If your child requires medication to be stored and administered in school, please come along during this time to hand it in.

What to expect

  • The process will take approximately 10 minutes per child
  • You will be asked to:
    • Complete and sign the required paperwork
    • Provide details about the medication
    • Have a photograph taken of your child to support safe identification and administration procedures

This helps us ensure that all medical information is accurate, up to date, and in line with school and local authority guidelines.

Important reminders

  • Please ensure all medication is clearly labelled with your child’s name
  • Bring any relevant medical information or updates from healthcare professionals where appropriate

If you are unable to attend during this time, please contact the school office to make alternative arrangements.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep all children safe and well.

We have been asked to share details of the next Messy Church session taking place this weekend.

Messy Church is a fun, relaxed way for families to come together and enjoy crafts, activities, stories and time to connect. It’s a lovely opportunity for children and adults to explore creativity and spend time together in a welcoming environment.

The next session will take place this Sunday, and everyone is very welcome to come along. Please note that this will be the final session before the summer break.

If your family is looking for something enjoyable and community-focused to do this weekend, this could be a great option!

Further details can be found on the attached flyer that has been shared with the school.

We hope everyone who attends has a fantastic time, and we wish the organisers all the best for a successful session.

We take great pride in our uniform as it helps us belong to our Calderwood family. A reminder, that black hoodies, black leggings and branded sports clothes are not part of our uniform. The various options are here. Primary 7 will be able to purchase a Primary 7 tie from the office and they will be able to purchase their Leavers hoodie early in the new term, to wear for PE days and then after Christmas they can wear as their daily uniform.

Calderwood Compliments:

  • Teenage Cancer Trust Fundraising: Three eight-year-olds from Calderwood have cycled 50 miles and held a large bake sale to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. They have raised over £3000 to help
support the charity and its vital services for young people with cancer. We celebrated the girls success at our Connects last Friday – you can find out more here.
  • Gala Art Competition: Well done to everyone who entered – especially our winners.
  • Parent Council: Our Parent Council Chair, Jo Ferguson, is stepping down as chair as we move into the new school session. We would like to thank her for all she has given to Calderwood Primary & Nursery. Thank you to Mica Burns, our Parent Council Treasurer, as she also steps down at the end of this session. It is a busy task, keeping up to date with all the incomes and outgoings, thank you for your time and ideas. Thank you to all our members of the Parent Council for their support and advice this school session and for their exceptional fundraising efforts.
  • Primary 7s: A huge thank you to our Primary 7 cohort, our first ever Primary 3 Clans! We wish them every luck and will be thinking of them all as they embark on the next part of their journey. A special thank you to our Chiefs and House Team, for all the support and leadership they have given to Calderwood.

As we move into our last week of Chapter 5 at Calderwood, we would like to thank our families for all their support this school session, we hope you all have an enjoyable summer.

Teenage Cancer Trust:

Three eight-year-olds from Calderwood have cycled 50 miles and held a large bake sale to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. They have raised over £3000 to help
support the charity and its vital services for young people with cancer.
The trio committed to the challenge to show solidarity for one of the girl’s sister Sophie, who is undergoing cancer treatment and to fundraise for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity providing specialised nursing care and expert youth support for young people with cancer.

The charity funds specialist nurses, youth workers and hospital wards within the NHS, so young people aged 13-24 with cancer get the sensitive, individual care and support they need at this unique and critical life stage.

Sophie’s Mum said:
“Conor, the Youth worker at the Teenage Cancer Trust unit in Edinburgh, was great at making sure Sophie always had something to do whilst going through treatment. The snug and designated rooms for teens on the unit really made a huge difference to our family whilst we were there”.

Charlotte, Relationship Manager for Scotland at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:
“We are incredibly proud and grateful that Bonnie, Ellen and Harper have fundraised for Teenage Cancer Trust. The money raised will help us be there for young people with cancer by ensuring they can receive specialist care and support from our nurses and youth workers. We can’t thank the girls enough for their incredible efforts.”

There’s still time to sponsor them by visiting Calderwood Cycle Challenge
