Leven and Rannoch Clan Connects

This morning, Leven and Rannoch Clans came together to share their learning with their families and the rest of the school community through their Clan Connects.

The children told us all about Resilience and Growth Mindsets and the importance of thinking positively.  They did an amazing presentation and we are so proud of each and every one of our learners.

Leven and Rannoch Clans then spent some time with their adults, sharing more of their learning from the year so far.

Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to come along to support Leven and Rannoch Clans this morning.

Rannoch – Christmas Party

Rannoch Clan had a fabulous time at their Christmas party this week. The children danced and sang along to their favourite Christmas songs and played some different festive games. We played Christmas corners, pass the parcel and even had a best dancer competition! It was a lovely, fun afternoon to celebrate the festive season as a clan.

Share the Learning – Rannoch

This week, Rannoch clan had the opportunity to share their learning about descriptive writing. At our Share the Learning event, we invited parents and carers along to demonstrate our hard work and show them all the learning which has went in to making our description writing so amazing!

We demonstrated the text map we had learned about Wolf Spiders, showed them how we structure a description text and explained what needs to go in each section. We also had the chance to show our Communicates and I’m an Author jotter to our adults. We loved reading them our favourite pieces writing and showing how much we have learned from our cold piece to our hot piece!

Thank you to everyone who came along!

Financial Education Sessions

Last week, our P3-7 clans took part in Financial Education Sessions, kindly delivered by Money Advice Scotland.

These sessions looked at Introduction to Money, Budgeting for Events, and Banking and Borrowing.

The children thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and learning about such an important subject.

Rannoch Clan – Maths Week Scotland

As part of Maths Week Scotland, Rannoch clan have been using their measuring skills to conduct an experiment! Within our IDL topic called ‘Calderwood Clan Explorers’, Rannoch have been learning about Loch Rannoch, the water cycle and the big question ‘why does it rain so much in Scotland?’.

To answer this question, we decided to make our own rain gauges to measure the amount of rain that falls here in Calderwood. We constructed these using recycled plastic bottles and used our knowledge of measuring to create a scale on the side of the bottle in centimetres. We then placed our bottles somewhere safe in the playground where we can record, explore and analyse the data next week.

Rannoch Clan – Description Writing

In Rannoch this week we have started to look at descriptive writing. We began by writing our cold piece on a sea creature that we had designed and created in our art lesson. We made sure to add lots of detail so we had lots of parts to describe!

Since then, we have explored description writing further and started to look at the tools which will help us with writing. Rannoch enjoyed reading the Mr Men book about Mr Tickle and used this as our next descriptive writing piece. Firstly, we used the describing bubble to create a plan for our writing which helped us come up with some great adjectives to describe Mr Tickle. Then we looked at the correct structure of a descriptive piece.

Rannoch clan created some wonderful descriptions of Mr Tickle this week!

Almond Valley Trip

Tummel, Tay, Rannoch, Leven and the P2s from Linlithgow had the best day at Almond Valley this week.  We learned all about shale and the mining that used to happen in West Lothian.  We saw lots of animals and learned about their habitat and what they eat.  We also had lots of fun in the park.  Thank you to all the adults who helped us on our trip.
