Abstract art in P2!

This week we continued our art topic looking at Wassily Kandinsky, we have been using pastels to recreate our versions of his 1913 piece ‘Farbistude Quadrate’  or ‘Circles in squares’.

We have also continued looking at Ancient Egyptians, we learned more about Egypt, using Google Earth to see the pyramids at Giza and looking at some of the clothes Ancient Egyptians wore.  We really like using the Smartboard to look at maps!

Brooke says, ‘They wore lots of jewelry.’

In our Grammar lesson, we learned about a new type of word.  We have learned that verbs are doing words.  Here are some of our verbs:

Erin:  to swim, Matthew: to exercise, Laura: to hop, Morgan: to skate, Carlos: to cook, Kai: to learn, Zoe: to dance, Lucca: to run, Alfie: to cycle, Ryan: to bobsleigh, Keigan: to jog, Lewis: to brush, Sanah: to jump, Isabel: to ride.

We are hoping to learn about what was inside the pyramids, how the Ancient Egyptians traveled, more about the jewelry, how the pyramids were built and how tall the pyramids are.

A busy week in P7

On Friday, P6 & 7 handed in their points homework based on the topic of ‘Our World’.  Each pupil had a number of weeks to prepare 40 points worth of homework.  We will be presenting our work on Thursday 19th December at 2.15pm and invite parents to come in and interact with our excellent work.

Mrs Molife and Mrs Kendal from JYHS paid us a visit today with the results of the maths challenge.  Although we didn’t win the trophy we all did well and had fun.  Congratulations to the Space Stars team (Tamzin W, Courtney, Shannon W, Maria & Demileigh) who were the overall winning team representing Bankton.

We have been practising our dances and games for our party on Tuesday coming and are really looking forward to it.

Lately we have been rehearsing for the Carol Service and some P7 pupils have been selected to read parts of the Christmas story.

We have enjoyed sorting and delivering the Christmas post but sadly the last day for collection is Monday.

The whole school was invited to see the P1-3 dress rehearsal of their show ‘Gabriel’s Big Break’.  We thought they were all Bankton stars and are sure that the parents would have enjoyed the shows too!

Fact of the Week

Did you know when volcanoes erupt they send ash into the air over 17 miles high?

Christmas fun

Primary 5 have been learning various social dances including, Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant, Military Two Step and Canadian Barn Dance. They are great fun and we will be dancing them at our Christmas party this afternoon. Barry thinks social dance, “is fun because I like learning dance moves.”
We have been learning about Saints and know the Patron Saints of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. Owen thought, “the saints were very interesting because you learned what good things they did for Christianity.”
We have had wonderful success with our Christmas Enterprise and only have a few items left to sell. Emma, “had fun selling and you really had to persuade people to buy more crafts.”
We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Stars in our eyes!

The boys and girls in primary 1 to 3 wowed their parents and family friends with amazing performances in their rendition of Gabrielle’s Big Break this week.  We were so proud of them as they sang beautifully, acted out their lines with expression and remembered to come in on cue!  Both performances entertained, provided Christmas cheer and I am sure brought a tear to some eyes!  Well done, boys and girls!  You are all stars!
