Well done to Nathan Campbell (and his family) who have tenderly been looking after the beanstalk which Nathan planted in school and then took home. After hearing about how well it was growing at parents evening I couldn’t resist asking for a photo and have to say I am very impressed! If anyone else is having success with their beanstalk then we would love to see it! Well done!!

Data Handling in P1b
P1b were learning all about graphs this week. We discussed our favourite characters from some fairy tales and made our votes using our ‘voting sponges’. This helped us to count up which character had the most votes and to talk about the most and least popular characters. We worked out that most people preferred the friendly dragon over the gingerbread man and that Rapunzel was the favourite character over Golidlocks and Little Red Riding Hood. We then used what we had learned to help us create our own Easter graphs. Super results achieved – well done P1b!
Marvellous Maths in P1b
P1b have been working hard today with drawing and counting objects to 20 and beyond. Miss Dyet worked with the children and was very impressed with their accurate counting and number formation. We tried out some tips on how to count large groups of objects and found that marking the objects that we had counted helped us to make sure we hadn’t counted any objects twice and hadn’t missed any out!
Easter rhyming and lots more ….
P1a have been busy this week learning about Spring. We have been thinking about the signs we can see all around us. Can you spot some of the signs of Spring the next time you are out walking? Here are some signs we came up with …
- flowers
- baby animals
- blossom
- bees
- butterflies
We have also been doing some Easter rhyming. We had a go at making different words that rhyme with ‘un’ using Easter eggs and we thought that was lots of fun.
P1a have also been enjoyed our new and improved structured play area! We loved all the space we now have.
In maths, we have also been learning about how to link addition and subtraction number stories together using dominos and pegs. We have been practising making 4 facts using 3 numbers e.g.
2+3 = 5, 3+2 = 5, 5 – 2= 3 and 5 -3 = 2
We also have been learning how to count beyond ten and counting out sets of objects up to 20.
P1a also enjoyed visiting the book fair and looking at all the lovely books.
We want to say a massive well done to the upper school for their show, we thought it was very funny.
“I liked the army men’ Daniel G
” I liked all of it” Ryan
Miss Rodford wants to give a big mention to Daniel S, for an amazing piece of instructional writing that he produced. It is super Daniel !! Well done to Jack Mcmillan, who was our superhero of the week. Jack has shown super manners and he has been trying very hard with his learning this week!
Literacy in P1b
P1b were practising their group work skills today when they were working in teams to think of adjectives to describe the big, bad wolf. The children worked together really well in their teams and thought of some super adjectives like mean, nasty, sneaky and evil!
We have also been working on our rhyming skills and completed some super independent rhyme work. Well done boys and girls! Keep up the good work!
Fairtrade Fortnight
As its Fairtrade Fortnight P1b have been learning all about Fairtrade. We met Pablo the banana (on the smartboard!) who told us about banana farmers and how hard they work. We were sad to hear that some farmers work very hard but don’t get a fair price for their goods. We took part in some drama a
ctivities and pretended to be banana farmers. Some farmers got a fair price and felt happy, other farmers only got a small amount of money and felt sad. We also sorted some pictures on the smartboard and learned about what th fairtrade logo looks like.
Watch out for the Big Bad Wolf!
P1b have been looking at the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ this week. We have been practising our detailed line drawings on whiteboards before drawing pictures of the wolf with the black pens. We used writing pencils to shade in our wolves and are very proud of the results!
We also used different colours of paper to produce some artistic pictures of Little Red Riding hood walking to granny’s house through the woods. We had to cut the different shades of brown paper to make the trees, them assembled the triangles and cut some leg shapes to make Little Red Riding Hood and then finally we made the silhouette of the big bad wolf!
Busy Busy Busy!
P1a have been working really hard this week ….
We have been learning about symmetry and we made our own symmetrical patterns on the carpet. We have also been practising taking away on a number line. We have been writing our own take away sums and been working out the answers using either our fingers or a number line.
We have been learning all about the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, we ordered the events of the story, drew pictures and wrote about the wolf.
As it is Fair Trade fortnight, we talked about why Fair Trade is important and we sorted foods which have the Fairtrade Symbol on it.
Can you spot any Fair Trade foods when you go shopping with your family?
Symmetry in P1b
Yesterday, during non-number maths P1b were learning all about symmetry. We talked about what symmetry means and impressed Mrs Lloyd when we were putting spots onto a ladybird to make it symmetrical. We also put a line of symmetry down our alphabet rug and had to position ourselves to make it symmetrical. We were really good at it!
World Book Day
P1b were looking good yesterday when lots of the children dressed up for world book day. We have celebrated by reading some good stories in the library this week including ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and we have been writing wanted posters for Golidlocks and making pictures of her for our ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears Wall’ which we are very proud of.
Mrs Lloyd’s writing group have also been writing letters to the Three Bears from Golidlocks. The quality of work produced was very high and the detail included was outstanding. Well done boys and girls!
