Marvellous Maths in P1b

This week has been another very busy week in P1b.  All of the children have been working very hard on their number formation and on counting and adding numbers togther.  We have been using a variety of resources to help us with our adding and we are really impressing Mrs Lloyd.

We have also been learning about 3D shapes this week.  We went on a shape hunt around the school with our parent helper Miss Graham and we managed to find lots of 3D shapes.  It was really good fun!  Have a look at our pictures and see what shapes you can spot!

What a busy week!

Even although the children were in school for only three and a half days this week – they have managed to fit in so many things!

They were a super audience for the cast of Robin Hood in the pantomime which made everyone laugh out loud, they have been practising the French phrases of the week and have also learned how to say hello and goodbye in Mandarin.  The children were also given the chance to hold and pass round Chinese paper craft and to try on some traditional Chinese masks.

P.E. was a highlight this week as four students from West Lothian College came and worked with the class.  The children demonstrated super listening skills and thoroughly enjoyed this and are now very much looking forward to the next three weeks working with the college students.

In literacy, we played a fun game where we picked out and said three sounds from the bag and then we had to try and make a word and decide if the word we made was a real word or a nonsense word!

The Halloween disco was a big hit with all the children and caused a lot of excitement this week. Happy Halloween everyone!

Addition Experts!

P1b impressed Mrs Lloyd today with their fantastic addition.  Everyone was working and concentrating really hard to ensure that they were counting carefully.  P1 now know what an adding sign and an equals sign looks like and are working hard to make sure that they can write all their numbers round the right way.

Yaroslav enjoyed the dice addition today while Isla liked counting out the animals.  Nathan C enjoyed counting the spots on the dominoes while Olivia liked using our adding machine.  Ben enjoyed adding the popcorn numbers and Caleb’s favourite activity was playing the beach holiday game on the laptops.  Well done boys and girls and keep up the good work!

P1b hard at work ………… again!!

This has been a very busy week.  We had great fun again in the structured play area where we were practising recognising all the coins when we were buying items in the shop!  Some chefs were busy working on making delicious healthy meals while in the role play area others were looking after the babies!

We have been working on shape again this week and have made lovely shape tractors which link with our harvest topic.  Take a look at us in action!

Please leave us a comment if you can – we like reading them!

Attention all P1 Parents!!

At the open morning I was asked if there was some more information about colourful consonants and vowel house available for parents.  To help you to be able to help your child with their sounds and with the mouth part colours I have added two files to the useful documents section.  One shows the different mouth parts and the letters that are made in certain parts of the mouth while the other tells the vowel house story.  Please let me know how you get on and if you need any more information or clarification.

P1b Highlights

Firstly, thank you to all who were able to come along to our open morning.  Primary 1 loved sharing their learning with you and did themselves proud by showing off their good behaviour too!

Fun in the sun and some structured play!

P1b had fun outside with the parachute today and were practising their listening skills at the same time!  They managed to put the parachute high up in the air and also worked together as a team to keep the ball on it!

Afterwards, we went to the structured play area and worked hard making some healthy meals at the craft table, investigating with the cars in the small world, threading and working on our fine motor skills to make creative pictures and role-playing in the house corner.  What a busy day!!!

Sounds work in P1b

The boys and girls have been busy working on using all of their set 1 sounds to begin to sound out words.  The independent challenge this week was to pick a picture and use the coathanger sounds to try to make the word.  Mrs Lloyd was very impressed at how well the children did! Take a look for yourself!
