Book week in P2

For book week, P2 have been reading ‘Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam’ and ‘Marshall Armstrong is new to our school’.

  • Daniel G: ‘Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam are robbers who get a new job and open a café’.
  • Caleb: ‘I learnt that you have to always do your best and don’t ever steal or sneak into someone else’s house’.
  • Nathan C: ‘I think the Marshall Armstrong book is very good. I learnt that Marshall Armstrong’s friends have been not nice to him at the start. Then they are nice at the end and had a party that they enjoyed together’.
  • Lauren: ‘My favourite activity from book week was making a new job for Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam’.
  • Fraser: ‘My favourite activity was when we designed our own cake for Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam’s cake shop’

We loved having the P2 adults in class to tell them all about our book week activities. We are so excited to bring our book bags home today to show our adults our brand new books and activities to do at home.

Also this week we have been learning about cold lands for our topic. Cole, Femme and Savannah loved drawing penguins following each step carefully. Kian and Robbie enjoyed sticking the animals from around the world in the correct climate on a world map.

In art, Kalan learnt how to make positive and negative shapes.

This week our number talks master was Robbie who did a super job of asking P2 to make double strategies.

P2 Olympics and sports day

P2 have been working very hard over the last couple of weeks to prepare their class talks about the Olympics. On Monday we heard amazing facts about the Olympics and some children made super models and Olympic crafts. Look at some of P2’s fantastic creations…

On Wednesday we met our new teacher. We were all very excited to see which friends were in our class and visit our new classroom.

This week P2 have been extremely busy completing our CEM tests so we enjoyed reading outside on the grass as a reward.

We have been playing maths games on the laptops and we learnt how to log on to the laptops all by ourselves!

P2

P2 have been learning all about Rio as part of our Olympics topic. We can talk about famous landmarks such as Sugarloaf mountain, Christ the Redeemer statue and the Maracana Stadium.

We have been learning about opposites and can write the opposite of ‘asleep’, ‘quiet’ and ‘hard’.

Cameron A has learnt some magic E words such as ‘slime’, ‘five’ and ‘pine’.

We drew sums in the playground using chalk. Alex made 10+10=20. Sachin made 7+8=15. Ayla made 58+24=82. Izaak made 55+50=105. Matthew made 52+74=126.

Corey enjoyed putting beanbags in the hoops to make number bonds to 20.
Kieran has enjoyed doing more subtraction sums this week.

Logan enjoyed watching a Djembe drum performance from the P5 world record holders!
Cameron C is very proud of himself for reaching his assembly target. P2 are very proud of you, well done!

P2 love French!

We have enjoyed learning about ‘Magic E’.

  • Logan: ‘page and Jake are Magic E words’.
  • Matthew: ‘cake and shake and Magic E words’.
  • Maya: ‘Magic E can change vowels and also ‘c’ and ‘g’.
  • Cameron C: ‘Magic E is quiet and can change sounds when he stands silently’.

Ayla liked practising writing the letter ‘s’ for handwriting.

Aiyasha is proud of her reading group for reaching the next Oxford Reading Tree stage.

P2 have been learning to read tricky numbers. Jack read ‘456’ and Ayla and Matthew were practising reading numbers up to 1 million!

P2 had a visit from small talks this morning. We had to say our name, count to 10 and say colours in French. We also learnt how to say ‘odd’ and ‘even’ in French. It was great fun playing the photo game!

P2 loved meeting Liam Davie!

On Tuesday, Commonwealth medallist Liam Davie came to Bankton Primary school to host a fundraising event. The children competed in 4 activities: spotty dogs, leg drives, press ups and star jumps.

Harvey: ‘It was really cool to exercise’

Aiyasha: ‘We asked Liam Davie questions like “how do you win a trophy?”

Logan: ‘The exercising was fun. My favourite activity was spotty dogs’.

Jodie: ‘I liked the press ups the best’

Oskar was the super hero in P2 this week. I wonder who it will be next week…

Our volcano explosion!

Ayla: P2 and P2/3 made a volcano explosion. We mixed ingredients to make the lava and put it in a plastic bottle. It only exploded a wee bit.

All of the children were very excited to see the explosion!

Maya: P2 and P2/3 have been busy writing about dinosaurs. We were learning to use full stops, capital letters and to write on the line. We loved drawing the picture of the dinosaur.

Alex: Now P2 have moved on to a new topic which is the Olympics. I want to find out why they do lots of sports in the Olympics. This year it is happening in Rio.

Yixuan: We wrote what we know about the Olympics and what we would like to find out.

Cameron C: In the Olympics there is a lot of swimming races and jumping.

Daniel C: I would like to find out if they play rugby in the Olympics.

Izaak: I want to know if they play golf in the Olympics.

Kiernan: I learnt that the Olympic torch goes all around the country before the Olympics start.

 

 

 

 

 

Aiyasha: In maths I learnt that ½ means 1 half.

Kieran: We have been learning how to half a cake and half numbers.

Cameron A: I learnt an easy way to add 9. You add 10 and take 1 away.

Daniel: I’ve been learning to add 10.

Niamh: This week we learnt a new word which is ‘mature’. We are getting ready for going into P3!

P2’s week

This week P2 have been learning to add and subtract with a missing number. We talked about strategies that we can use to help us such as counting on, using a number line and splitting up the number.

We have all been learning to write our full names. Cameron C was very proud of himself!

The Lightening McQueen reading group enjoyed reading using our funny voice cards. Matthew loved reading with a monster voice and Leo was very good at reading like a lion.

We enjoyed P.E outside in the beautiful weather! Andrew loved playing football and Jodie enjoyed time on the tyre park.

P2 loved the dinosaur topic in term 3 so we are going to finish the topic next week with a volcano eruption! We are all so excited to see what happens! Here is our volcano, ready to go…

First week back!

P2 have had a very exciting first week back!

To finish our dinosaur topic we learnt all about palaeontologists and we turned into palaeontologists for the afternoon! It was our job to carefully dig the chocolate chips out of the cookie without damaging the cookie or the chips. It was very tricky but we all managed to safely dig out the chocolate chips.

As part of Eco week, we had a visit from ‘Bag Girl’ who taught us how to fight junk monsters by reducing, reusing and recycling our waste. We also learnt a song that will remind us to take canvas bags with us when we go shopping.

In teams we had to sort rubbish into groups of metal, plastic or cardboard/paper.

We looked at old junk and shared our ideas of how we could reuse it. Some excellent ideas were to turn bubble wrap into a dress or use a kitchen roll tube as a golf club.

 

In maths we are learning to tell the time and are already super at reading ‘o’clock’ and ‘half past’ on analogue clocks.

As part of the ‘mile a day’ challenge we joined together with P2/3 to walk 1 mile around our playground. We had great fun getting fit!

Super Ted came back to class this week after his adventure home with Ayla and had a lovely new jumper! We think he looks very cute now.

P2’s week

P2 have been busy drawing pictures of our mums for Mother’s Day. We also wrote ‘This is my mum’ stories and ‘I love my mum because…’ which were on the wall at the assembly.

At the assembly we had great fun singing lovely songs about Mummies and Grannies.

Tiegan, Ryan and Ayla liked singing ‘You cannae shuv yer Grannie aff the bus’.

Nicole loved singing ‘The Funny Face’ song.

Matthew enjoyed reading out lovely things about his mum.

Well done to all of the children from P2 who spoke at the assembly: Leo, Sachin, Kieran, Sarah, Ryan, Daniel T, Matthew, Ayla and Jack.

Leo’s favourite part of the week was drawing Supertato for World Book Day. The children all did a super job!

We had great fun outside drawing dinosaur footprints and we used rulers to measure how many cm they were. The children worked extremely hard and were super learning partners to each other. P2 are also learning how to multiply by grouping objects together.

I was very impressed with the Jungle Book reading group this week as they managed to read some tricky words. Well done!

A week in primary 2

This week we have been working very hard to subtract a small number from a bigger number. Some children were even counting up into the thousands! In spelling we learnt new words like ‘sight’, ‘tight’ and ‘high’.

We enjoyed a super performance from Macastory who visited the school this week. They told us excellent Scottish stories and they taught us some Scottish songs.

 

Sachin: ‘I have learnt some new verbs like ‘to eat’, ‘to row’ and ‘to sail’.’

Ayla: ‘I learnt some new Scottish words like ‘mooth’ which means mouth, ‘lugs’ which means ears, ‘airms’ which means arms and ‘taes’ which means toes’.

Kiernan: ‘I have learnt how to draw a dinosaur using a stencil’.

Aiysha: ‘We learnt that some dinosaurs eat leaves and some don’t eat leaves’.

Izaak: ‘Carnivores are meat eaters. Meat and plant eaters are omnivores. Plant eaters are called herbivores’.

Niamh: ‘I have learnt some names of dinosaurs. I know about the Stegosaurus’.

Cameron A: ‘I learnt that Pterodactyls can fly’.

Kieran: ‘We have been learning to subtract in maths. Also I learnt what a t-rex eats’.
