P5 and P5/6 Assembly

By Becky Hyland P5/6

The date of our assembly was Friday 12th October 2012.  The theme of the assembly was harvest.  We sang two songs called “Sing a song of Harvest” and “Harvest Samba”.

We also performed our church activity and said the poem “Harvest Beat”  Then it was the Autumn dances to the music Autumn by Vivaldi.  It was loads of fun!

This was the order we performed our assembly in: ‘Sing a song of Harvest’, church activity, Harvest beat, Autumn dances, Autumn Sound Graphs and last but not least we sang “Harvest Samba”.

Christmas term

P.3 children are settling back into school after the October holiday.   They are beginning rehearsals for the P.1-3 Christmas assembly.

This term P.3a are finding out about ‘The Romans’ and P.3b are finding out about ‘The Egyptians’.   The children in one class will be able to tell the children in the other P.3 class about their topic.

On Wednesday 24th October Mr Foster came to school to tell us how to keep safe when using  electricity in our homes.    Now we are ‘POWERWISE’.  We found out which materials are good insulators to keep us safe when using electrical appliances.

Journalism First-hand!

By Jamie Skeldon

Last Tuesday, at 9.30a.m., a well known sports journalist, Mr Anderson, who works for the Edinburgh Evening News, came into class to tell us about journalism first-hand.

He told us about how you have to include who? what? when? where? and why? and also how your key points have to be in the first and second paragraphs and there were questions and answers. Mr Barry Anderson writes for the sports section every day and gave up his free time to speak to us.

Mr Anderson told us about deadlines and the difference between feature and sports writing. He also told us that if you were to choose this career you have to go to other countries and interview people and as he said, sometimes people can be very helpful and sometimes they can be arrogant and very impatient.

Just before Mr Anderson left, he signed autographs just for a laugh. He then told us if anyone would like advice on this particular career we should contact him through Dylan, his son, who is in this class. We then thanked him then he left.

Lowport visit September 2012

Recently a group of 30 primary fives went to Lowport in Linlithgow, where they had lots of fun.

On the first day we went swimming before eating our packed lunches in the swing park in the sunshine!  Later that afternoon, we went on a walk round the loch and completed a quiz.

On Thursday, we went to visit Linlithgow Palace and learned how to sail on the loch.

On Friday, we went orienteering before returning to Bankton.

Rumours that the children had a midnight feast of sweets is strongly denied by the teachers!

Maths Challenge

On Thursday 27th September, Primary 7 were invited up to James Young High School for the annual maths challenge.  Children worked well in their teams to solve a variety of puzzles and maths problems.  It was a busy morning which was enjoyed by all.    The children are now patiently waiting to see how well their team performed.  Watch this space!!
