10. School of Rock

10. School Of Rock Project:

All P7 pupils from St Serf’s and Chapelside Primaries involved in this project were given the opportunity to try out a range of rock band instruments, including drums, guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and ukulele.  They then opted to concentrate on a particular instrument and were split into bands where they practised putting together the constituent parts of a pop song to create a performance.

Expert tuition on each instrument, as well as an insight into performing, arranging and programming, was provided by a professional musician and this will hopefully open up a pathway into performing a musical instrument in secondary school.

The young people put on a performance for the rest of the school at the end of the project.

Pupils also benefitted from the inherent curricular and social benefits that are associated with learning to play an instrument and having performance opportunities.
