North Lanarkshire Schools’ Pipe Band
Over the past few years North Lanarkshire’s pipe bands have achieved resounding success. Scottish champions, British and European champions on two occasions, RSPBA Champion of Champions for 2018, and World Champions in 2016 and 2019
As a result of this success the Band attended the world renowned Tartan Day Celebrations in New York in April 2019 where they also had the honour to take part in the tartan Day Observance ceremony.
This amazing opportunity provided our young people with a platform to showcase their exceptional talent on the world stage
In 2019 North Lanarkshire Schools Novice A Pipe Band were crowned world champions at Glasgow Green – adding to their British and European titles.
The drummers took the drumming prize and also scooped the prestigious champions of champions prize.
The Novice B finished third in a field of 21 bands – an achievement made even more incredible as it was many of the youngsters’ first appearance at the world championships.
Pipe Major Ross Cowan commented: “We are all very proud to win this.
“The support the band has had from the people of North Lanarkshire has been incredible and we cannot thank everyone enough.
Ross Cowan, Pipe Major, said: “It’s incredible to think we took part in the Tartan day parade in New York this year – what an unbelievable experience was for all our young people.
“He added: “It’s been the most successful season ever.
“We were also delighted with our Juvenile band.,It’s the highest ever finish in their grade and the highest finish by any state school pipe band in Scotland.”
Provost Jean Jones said: “It’s wonderful that pupils from schools across North Lanarkshire participated in the Tartan Day celebrations in New York. The bands are a superb example of the very best in Scottish Education and shows what can be achieved through hard work and dedication of both staff and pupils.”
The NLPB work together all year round, on Wednesdays from 7.00 – 9.00pm, in Coatbridge High School. Applications are invited from all pupils who presently play bagpipes and pipe band drums. Additional lessons/rehearsal will also be available for less experienced pupils on Friday evenings from 4.15-6.15pm in Coatbridge High School.

Transport will be provided by North Lanarkshire on Friday evenings only.
Transport will not be provided on Wednesday evenings and parents and carers will require to make their own transport arrangements.
