Room 9 Direct Speech

We have all enjoyed being back at school this week. Mr Allen said it was great having everyone back in class.

In literacy this week, we were learning about how to use Direct speech. It was very tricky at first but by the end of the week we all really understood what to do. The first thing that we need to do is separate the talking part and the unspoken part of a sentence, we use a comma to do this. Then we put the inverted commas around the spoken part using marks that we called 66 and 99 because that is what the punctuation marks look like. Instead of writing in our jotters, Mr Allen got us to act out the situation using printed words and punctuation marks. The photographs below shows what we did.

Mr Allen was so impressed with our progress, we got to share our learning with the P3s and P4s during our assembly this week. We also used direct speech in our story writing.

Room 1

Good afternoon everyone,

This week we have been learning all about time. We talked about how time passes from days to months to years. We then looked at how to tell the time.

OC “We used an analogue clock”

KH ” The little hand is the hours”

WMcC ” The big hand is the minutes hand.

CMCI ” When the minute hand is on the 12 and the hours hand is on the 6 it is 6 o’clock”

LW “24 hours in a day”

Please have a look at our learning below.

Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you

The P7s got their leavers hoodies this week, we love them! (All P7s)

We started our new IDL topic ‘Natural Disasters.’ We were allowed to get involved in the planning of this topic by writing down our ideas and the different things we’d like to learn about. (Gillen, Sophie & Daisy)

We’ve started a new module in music all based on the song, ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. We got to use the glockenspiels to play along with the music. (Chloe)

Our Week in Room 16

We are so happy to be back in school for our first week back of the new term and what a week we have had!

We have focused on reflective writing to showcase all of the exciting experiences we had over the Easter break, we have had fun with family and friends with so many different stories to tell. In numeracy, we have been challenging ourselves to make connections between division and fractions as we are beginning to recognise fractions from their smallest amount to their largest. We have also been looking at 3D shape for our beyond number work and have successfully identified a variety of shapes.

We have also celebrated spring and summer arriving with some blossom art, we have explored the life cycle of apple trees and used our creative skills to make ‘popcorn trees’ which show the pink blossom before the apple arrives in the early summer. We are embracing the sunny weather and have begun a new block of rounders lesson, our first game was a success and we can’t wait to play more!

We have used our ICT skills to explore different famous explorers through our exciting explorers game: check it out here! KS1 History free game – Ibn Battuta, Amelia Earhart and Neil Armstrong for primary school children – Exciting Explorers – BBC Bitesize

We have also begun a Makaton club in Room 16 and would like to thank all the children who signed up and attended.

Welcome back!

Room 6 had a lovely day yesterday settling back into our routines. We enjoyed writing about things we got up to during the holidays and sharing our news with our peers. It sounded like Room 6 had a busy time over the holidays! We are looking forward to continuing to build our learning over the final term before the summer holidays.

To end last term, we had a great last week with lots of exciting activities. To mark the end of our reading of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, we had a relaxing final afternoon watching the film and identifying similarities and differences to the book.

Mrs Rae also brought in her violin to mark the completion of our music topic. We learned about the different parts of the violin, how to correctly use this instrument and all got a shot at playing notes. We are naturals!
