Burns Day

Last week, Room 6 had  a lovely time celebrating Burns Day. We enjoyed sharing our knowledge about Robert Burns and his work as a poet. We learned that his birthday was 25th January and discussed some of his famous poems, such as ‘Auld Lang Syne’ and ‘To a Mouse’. As part of our music lesson on Thursday, we looked at the famous song ‘Loch Lomond’ and were keen to learn and sing along. We focussed on the chorus of the song and made up some great actions to go along with it. We were also very interested in finding out the meaning of the song and made some predictions about this. On Friday morning, we performed this song at the P1 and P2 assembly. We sang so well and Mrs Rae was very proud!

As part of Burns Day, we also had a chat about and looked at different types of tartan. We discussed Scots words and what these meant. Using this information we started to create a mosaic featuring Scots words and our own tartan design. It looks like a visual Scottish dictionary! This mosaic is still a work in progress but we wanted to show our efforts so far.

Below are some comments on our learning this week:

SM – I liked making the tartan.
QJO, IR, RF – I liked when we sorting the making of chocolate and I liked meeting our French puppet who taught us the French months.
