Newton Farm Primary School and Nursery Class

Scots Language & Robert Burns Room 9

Over the last few weeks we have been learning about the Scots Language and we have really enjoyed all the funny sounding words. Here are some of our favourites.

  • Mingin,
  • bowfin,
  • achin wame,
  • lugs,
  • dug,
  • sair

We got to explore different Scottish poems like “The Sair Finger”, A Dug a Dug and Katie Bairdie. For our writing we got to write our own version of Katie Bairdie which helped us to find out lots of new rhyming words. Here is an example of our work.

At the assembly this week we got to sing two songs in front of all the Primary 3s and 4s. Our first song was about the history of Robert Burns but we did it to the music for “Gangnam Style”, except our version was called “Dae it Rabbie Style”. The second song was about a “Greasy, Squeezy, Triple Cheesy, Bacon Roll”. Three members of the class also got to read poems on the stage.

The grown ups at home will be disappointed that they didn’t get to see our performance but we will be doing some of the assembly at the P3 Learning Showcase that will be taking place at the end of February.
