Literacy Learning

Over the past week, Room 6 have been developing many different skills when completing literacy tasks. We have looked at a variety of texts and have been concentrating on our ability to predict what is going to happen in a story. We have come up with some super, accurate predictions!

Across the last three weeks, we have been learning about the spelling phonemes ‘ai’ (as in train), ‘oy’ (as in boy) and ‘oa’ (as in goat). To practise these spelling sounds, we have been enjoying using many different strategies, such as elkonin boxes, magnetic boards and active spelling stations. We have also used these active spelling stations to revise this week’s common words; ‘here’, ‘her’ and ‘before’.

In our writing, we have started looking at narrative texts and the features this type of writing needs. We began by having a discussion on why we write and what types of genres we know about. Following this, we read the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and tried to identify the characters found in the story, where the story is set and what the plot is. To complete the lesson, we worked on sequencing the story in the correct order. We really enjoyed working as a team to do this!
